almightyseancore
something i've always wanted to ask about and never got around to. so yeah. i have two 7"s that do this. a bright eyes one, and a smashing pumpkins one. but both have grooves on the bside, but no audio. mind you audio was never intended to be here, so why even both with the grooves? i say leave it smooth and blank and sexy, or etch that fucker even! xjustinxschwierx
it might have just been the blank plate that was used. perhaps the plant had a blank one make that was all silence... the get Rad 12" i did looks like there's grooves on the B side but that was the plant's blank plate they had and they didn't charge me to use it, so I didn't care. thieves
some places may do that because a blank, smooth side could encourage the records to stick to the top stamper instead of cycling through the press.
chiefwahoo
Which Smashing Pumpkins record?
mindovermatter
Which Smashing Pumpkins record? The first physical installment of the Teargarden project had it. The 7" in the crazy box.
plasma36
The Ergs!'s "Thrash Compactor" has this, as well as "The Clearing" by Disappearer.
philviral
Got the new Cage the Elephant record the other day, it had a bonus 7" in it with empty grooves on the B side.
Guest afsdan
I released a record with blank b-side grooves. it's just the stamper the plant uses. the a-side has two separate grooves
jon
Bad Religion's Back To The Known EP is one that comes to mind with a blank, mirror smooth B/side. After coming out of the sleeve a couple of times it looks all scratched up so I think I prefer the blank grooves...
almightyseancore
Which Smashing Pumpkins record? The first physical installment of the Teargarden project had it. xgrantx
The Mall'd to Death record is smooth on the blank side but a friend of mine who has been a dj for 25 years was surprised. He said the old single sided singles they used to get at the radio station either had blank grooves or a crisscross print- he said that he thought it was to prevent the blank side from slipping on the table when they would cue them up.
