The originals are good in their own right and whenever remade for American audiences, they completely lose their punch. Two that come to mind that freaked me out were Dark Water and The Eye. Both were excellent. I saw part of the Dark Water remake and it sucked. And I'm not even going to bother with The Eye remake...even with Jessica Alba in it.
