circuit bored records
Especially when it's a super thin jacket and sealed really tight. I always manage to fuck it up when trying to open and cause a tiny corner crease or something like that. It's shitty
rocknroll76
You can usually use a blade somewhere on the opening to get it started pretty clean.
lexicondevil
Yep, a pain in the ass. I usually use a box knife with the blade just barely poking out to make sure I don't hit the inner sleeve or record.
appletree
Yeah I usually use a pocket knife and just get a slit where the cardboard opens then continue the slit all the way down. I sometimes leave the shrink wrap on even though I use new inner and outer sleeves for my records.
alfred
The worst is when it's on so tight that it pulls the corners and leaves its own crease. I ordered Year Of The Tiger for myself and a friend and both of our copies had bent corners as a result of this.

Derek™
The obvious solution, here, is to never open your records.

almightyseancore
i bought a copy of red stars theorys "life in a bubble" about 3 years ago that had been sealed since the 90s. for about a week after i opened it you could still see the shape of the touch n' go catalog on the side of the record when you took it out, i guess from it being pressed so tightly against the record for so long.
