pushbacktosquare
Sometimes, my needle picks up dust and dirt and I just kind of pick it off and move on. Pretty sure there is an actual way to clean this so, yeah. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

ajxd
Careful with the magic eraser. There's been a lot of talk of them pulling the diamond tip right off.
littlebistro
I literally drop the needle down and lift it up with the elevation switch.

ajxd
I literally drop the needle down and lift it up with the elevation switch. That's what everyone does. And a lot of people have said that when they cue up, they notice a weird black dot in the center of the magic eraser...
dethrock
I've done the magic eraser way a few times and it's worked great. The last time my girlfriend was listening to some Tegan & Sara live record and it sounded like shit (insert they always sound like shit joke here.) I looked and my stylus had a ton of dirt on it. Magic erased it and it sounded fine after. I watched a few Youtube videos first on how to do it so I didn't screw up.
Dillhole
Yep, magic eraser. Just give it a dip, DO NOT drag it across the surface. Just cue it down on top and lift it up. Done this to the last 3 stylus's I've had with no negative side effects.
pushbacktosquare
Magic eraser. Got it. I'll do a bit of research before I embark on the project. Thanks all.
ajxd
I'm not saying the Magic Eraser doesn't work. It is a perfect idea. But. It's not made for that, and there have been numerous accounts of the eraser taking the diamond tip off. So, use it or not, just be warned. chubbler108
I have been using Last Stylus Cleaner. Last is the brand. It looks like a little bottle of nail polish, and you drag the brush from the back of the stylus to the front. Does anybody have any experience with this? It's been working great for me so far. ajxd
I have used Last. I like it, and prefer it over the Magic Eraser.

oxxo
Dip a small nylon artist paint brush in naphtha (lighter fluid), dab the excess on a paper towel, and gently brush the stylus tip. Naphtha is a solvent, but doesn't dissolve vinyl or most plastics. Used this method for years.

pushbacktosquare
Finally did this. How many times would you guys suggest doing it? Weekly? Monthly?
kannibal
Currently I have a number of things I use. I have the stylus brush from the cartridge that I use frequently. I also have the stylus cleaner square from the Bren1 clamp website. it works well and I have never had a problem. It is filled with black dots as well, AJXD. I just recently bought a pack of the Last stylus cleaner and stylus treatment. I like that a lot too. It was $50. But I wish I had just purchased the Onzow Zerodust: http://www.soundstagedirect.com/zerodust-stylus-tip-cleaner.shtml It's the best rated stylus cleaner by a lot of the top names in audiophile vinyl and I have seen recommendations from average joes on the web too. Yes, it's $70, but it last a life time, and how much would you pay to always have a clean stylus and greatly minimize damage your records? I'd pay $70 for that.
