californiaflow
Find some old JBLs on CL or eBay. I love mine, paid $30 for the pair.

amnstypls
My comment was to amnstyls. Yeah I was being faceitous. But seriously though, unless you double your budget you aren't gonna find anything stellar brand new in that price point.
ilikeguitars
Build your own.
swemoll
Build your own. Or save all the time it would take to learn how to [properly] build a speaker and pay someone (like a speaker manufacturer) to build one for you. thejesseb
So I was able to get an incredible deal on my integrated amp, so I may have an extra $100 for speakers. $300 for a pair if you have any recommendation. Also looking for a pair that wont need a sub.
ajxd
Tell us about the room size you are using. And size... spacing for speakers... stuff in the room. All this has an affect on bass management.
thejesseb
Here is a rough sketch of what Im dealing with. The red will be the speakers. Dont want to set em on the expedit so will probably get some stands. Ive been eyeing the Definitive Technology 450's. I think I can get em for around $250 Note my awesome drawing skills. ha
steviex2shoes
Build your own. This kind of seems like fun to me, and at not much of a cost.

Funny. Room dimensions? At this size which I am guessing is less than 10x10, you could handle some small speakers and still get nice low end. Due to size constraint, look for something sealed or front ported. Rear ported would be too close to the wall and end up very muddy/crappy. ajxd
I usually say at least 12-18" off a wall for rear ported...

thejesseb
Pardon my idiocracy but how can you tell if they are front or rear ported. Ive looked all over product details and cant tell.
ajxd
Simply, if there is a hole in the front, or in the back. Front Rear
thejesseb
gotcha. and thanks. Any suggestions on front ported ones? And I need to measure but I think I have enough room to keep the speakers out from the wall if I were to get rear-ported.
ilikeguitars
Or save all the time it would take to learn how to [properly] build a speaker and pay someone (like a speaker manufacturer) to build one for you. Ya maybe we should never do anything for ourselves or learn and just pay someone else to do everything for us. This kind of seems like fun to me, and at not much of a cost. ya they are pretty easy to build and inexpensive. Definitely worth the cost and time put into them, they sound fantastic. swemoll
Ya maybe we should never do anything for ourselves or learn and just pay someone else to do everything for us. Not everything. But definitely the things I'm not particularly good at and/or haven't spent my life trying to figure out how to perfect. In terms of the speakers, I still like PSB, because it's going to be the best sound at that price point, but you won't get whomping bass or anything. They have an "Alpha B1" for 300 bones.
