xxmartinxx
Equipment being used with them: Parasound 2100 Pre Parasound 2125 Power Oppo 105 Universal (Sabre Dac) I'm noticing a distinct lack of a turntable here.
ajxd
My table gets minimal use. Of all my audio listening... vinyl is maybe 10% (high estimate), 50% Apple TV (Streaming Audio/Movies), 30% Blu-Rays, 10% CDs. Pro-Ject 1.3 with Ortofon 2M Blue. I've been more focused on the rest of my setup recently, really exploring digital sound. Once my analong interests peak again, I'll probably invest in a Traveler/Scout, or depending on my friend, an Avid Diva II that he doesn't want anymore. It just struck me as odd considering the site we're on.
ajxd
Freudian slip or just my wishful thinking? Heyooo Fair enough. It just struck me as odd considering the site we're on. Yeh my audio interests fluctuate. In the last 12 years of having my own stereo its gone from 2 channel to 5.1 to 5.1 and 2 channel to just 2 channel to 2x 2 channels, soon to be 3x. I at one point had 3 turntables too! But now I've been focusing on digital side of things. Maybe next year I'll focus on analog again. swemoll
My 2 cents - Bookshelf: GoldenEar Aon3 or Linn Majik 109 (better for music, but amazing all-around) Floorstander: Magnepan MG1.7 or Rega RS5s, depending on taste Just know those 1.7s are power hungry animals, and not strong in the bass. You NEED a sub with them if you want to do anything resembling home theater.
octave
I'm by no means an audio expert, but i have these http://www.paradigm.com/products/products-by-category/bookshelf/paradigm/monitor-series-7/atom-monitor and they sound quite amazing for bookshelf speakers. They make higher end ones as well, specifically http://www.paradigm.com/products/products-by-category/bookshelf/paradigm-reference/30th-anniversary-series/inspiration and from everything I have read they are amazing. I wonder how those Inspirations sound against the B&W 6-1/2 Bookshelfs...
ajxd
Octave- CM5s or the 686s? Swemoll- Thanks for the Goldenear reminder. I had looked at those before, and I forgot about em!
octave
Octave- CM5s or the 686s? The 685s, they both have the bass ports on the front. That's the only way I would buy any bookshelf speakers for my 2 channel setup.
ajxd
I'm for sure the Paradigms would blow em out of the water. Though the 685s sound good for the price... they aren't anything spectacular. I'm sure if the Inspirations are the 30 year anniversary exclusive... I'm sure there's a LOT of effort going into them.
swemoll
The GoldenEars are a very interesting bookshelf. It's more of a monitor than anything, wanting to be situated a bit out into the room.
ajxd
My BFF brought up an interesting point. Per pound, he thinks the smaller would be the better based on weight. Thinking on terms of bracing...
