Emo Revival
So my Technics SA-160 stopped working this weekend. I tried replacing the fuse hoping that was it, but it still wont turn on. It's getting power so I believe one of the circuit boards is bad. Rather than spending a bunch trying to get it fixed, I figure I should just get a new one. I'm looking to spend about 3-400. This was something I was looking at http://www.amazon.com/Marantz-NR1403-Slim-Line-Receiver/dp/B0081N916M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1379940644&sr=8-2&keywords=MARANTZ but thought maybe you guys would have some advice on how to better spend my money. I'm also looking at http://www.phonopreamps.com/tc750lcpp.html that for my preamp. Let me know your thoughts!
slinch
The NR line is pretty bad. What features do you need/use? If you're not gonna use all channels for a surround setup and don't need the tuner, then go for a stereo integrated: http://www.amazon.com/Marantz-PM5004-Integrated-Amplifier-Black/dp/B003R7KMTC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1379942016&sr=8-7&keywords=MARANTZ Has a built in phono stage, so it's the same amount of money, but way better overall. JumpingBean
Yeah stay away from modern receivers. Integrated amp is the way to go if you're talking modern.

See I was looking at that one, but was thinking the tuner would be nice because I do have an HDDVR, a 360, and a Chromecast. It's a tough choice... JumpingBean
You can always get a separate tuner after the fact. Better to have something good to start with than buy junk and only want to replace it later.Depending how big your space is you could also consider the A-S500 as it's got almost twice the power at the same price. The PM6004/A-S500 debate is one thats been iterated hundreds of times on this forum and I'm not going to delve into it too much. But basically at the price level you're looking at, a Marantz or Yamaha integrated should do you quite well.
ajxd
Yeah stay away from modern receivers. Why?
ajxd
Like in general... or for 2 channel set ups? There are a lot of good AVRs out there.

I've gotten good advice from you before so I'm curious your thoughts.
circuit bored records
Demon InCommand x2000 (no phono stage), Marantz SR6008 (has phono stage) The 6008 is a great AVR for the money, and I think AJXD will agree.

slinch
I agree that the SR6008 is amazing for the money, but I also believe that strictly for music listening the PM6004 is slightly better, and costs less than half of the SR6008. So if you don't NEED the extra features a receiver has to offer, it doesn't really make sense to buy one.
Emo Revival
Is there any real difference between the Yamaha A-S500BL and the R-S500BL?
kannibal
The R has a tuner.
JumpingBean
Is there any real difference between the Yamaha A-S500BL and the R-S500BL? Yeah it's completely different. The amp portion of the R-S500 isnt nearly as high quality as the a-s500
Emo Revival
I think I'm gonna go with the A-S500BL
