genicide
Not sure if this is the best board. But I just moved to the Philly area and I'm looking for some good record stores that carry the types of bands that are often discussed on these forums (Ie not indie stuff or just old record bins). Brand New, ADTR, Saves The Day, those type of bands and albums. Please help. Thanks
gutzonborglum
Not quite in Philly, but Siren Records in Doylestown is pretty sweet.
blessedxcursed
you aren't going to find a store that just carries one small genre of music. the best record store in philly is definitely Long in the Tooth. I always hit that place up when I go to Philly and it's always stocked with goodness. You are also an hour/hour and a half away from Allentown, PA you should hit up Double Decker Records which is one of the best record stores in the country. tonyfranciosa
Long in the Tooth is great. Repo Records on South St. is a solid, reliable store. Some people like AKA in Old City and Beautiful World Syndicate in East Passyunk (my hood!!), but I don't like those as much as the other two I mentioned. I usually drive to Princeton Record Exchange once a month and have to hit Double Decker a couple times a year.

Im not looking for that genre exclusively, but most stores I've come about so far have been very "indie." Thanks all for replies, I'll have to check these out for sure. sillybarry
Long In the Tooth on Sansom is a must when in the city

chuck
Besides those already mentioned, Main St Music in Manayunk is pretty good, though smaller. There's one in the Piazza, too, but I've always thought the prices were a little high
museummouth
Avoid AKA, Siren, and Creep Records. All of them are overpriced and pretty rude. You won't find anything food there. Beautiful World Syndicate, Repo, and Main Street are pretty decent, while Long In The Tooth is probably the best in the city.
billya
I don't believe I've ever had a cool find or an especially good deal at Repo. It will always blow my mind that THAT is the place people harp on about.
tonyfranciosa
I like Repo for new stuff... their used selection leaves a lot to be desired. Their staff is really friendly too - more so than some of the other places I frequent though I've been going there for 10+ years, so I guess I know them better than most.
