Guest burnedfaceless
Using an air duster should be cool for the stylus right? Surely better than my grimy fingers.
hudsoncomplex
It would be better to go with one of these: http://www.needledoctor.com/New/Stylus-Cleaners
Guest burnedfaceless
Thanks. Need a record cleaner too. I might try to get some friends to throw down with me.
ajxd
Don't use an air duster.
Guest burnedfaceless
My problem is I get dust on almost every record. When I change sides I have to clean the stylus somehow. What is a budget solution to this? Paper towel?
Guest burnedfaceless
Hey I saw you're in Savannah. Cool man what do you listen to?
TaxiDriver
What some people do is have a little piece of DRY Mr. Clean Magic Eraser near their turntable and dip the stylus in a couple times vertically to get the dust. Works good I've tried it myself but YMMV.
russtcb
Magic Eraser has worked out fine for me. Just placing it under the tone arm and using the level to take it up and down a few times.
mrrom92
another vote for the magic eraser

ajxd
As for the Magic Eraser, yes its better than your fingers. BUT. As I've stated before in other threads... there have been some posts where people put their stylus down on the eraser... then lifted it, and noticed there was a small black spec on the magic eraser, and no diamond tip on the stylus. Never happened to me, could be the idiot slammed his stylus into the eraser. But, be careful.
kidamnesiac
I've had good luck with a magic eraser in the past, but I have been meaning to get a Zerodust since I upgraded my setup. They retail for $70, but can be had for about half that on eBay.

Tardcore
I wouldn't clean my gear with anything that I would not also be willing to use to clean my testicles. canned air. the horror.
Guest burnedfaceless
What is wrong with the air duster? Is it the chemicals? But yea man I'm working a lot but we should check out each other's setups. I'm going to make list of what I have. I've been given a lot of my dad's classic rock/jazz records and my grandpa's jazz records. I have a good deal of some of those other bands in other formats. I'll have to make a list. edit: wilco fan as a guitarist myself
