mikeytags
I'm looking to upgrade my cart from the standard Music Hall Tracker. I'd like to stay in the $100-$150 range, and I'm mainly between either the Ortofon 2m Red or Grado red/blue. Also, I've read mixed opinions on whether or not a heavier counterweight would be needed with these. Can anyone that has a 2.2 chime in with your opinions / suggestions and what worked for you? Cloudsbelow
I have the 2m red and initially really liked it.. great value and hard to be disappointed. Lately I have been noticing more IGD and half think it is the cart/stylus and am looking at maybe a 2m bronze (black up grade in a few years). in terms of tech stuff, i dunno. I'm in the same boat, thinking about the 2m Blue instead of red. I'm just afraid to change it myself.
xxmartinxx
Have you considered a Denon DL-110?
kannibal
I don't get the love affair with the 2M Red. I'm sure it's fine, I just think there are better choices, like the DL-110. If a table came fitted with the OM5e, then no VTA adjustments are needed. The only thing to watch out for is a platter that may not play well with stronger magnets of moving coil. allenh
An MC cartridge can often take a longer listen, it's quite often not an immediate hit and requires a longer listen to get used to the sound. Given the choice I'd go MC every time but if you are auditioning in small snippets in a shop most MC's don't stand out so I can see why they are sometimes overlooked, often after a decent length listen to an MC cart it's the swap back to MM that convinces you on the MC. tonyfranciosa
If you can afford the Audio Technica AT440MLA, go with that. I've been using it for almost 2 years and it sounds amazing. It's almost like it was made for this table. Tracks anything I throw at it with no IGD at all (except for that lousy Mellon Collie reish). Metal Mike
went with the DL-110. playing it now and it sounds great! How was the installation? I also have a MMF 2.2 and I'm thinking about a new cart. I'm pretty handy, but worry about breaking wires or jacking up the fine tuning. Also, is it significantly better than the Tracker? tonyfranciosa
how do like the Denon DL-110? I have one coming for my Music Hall and I'm anxious to hear how it sounds compared to my AT440, which is near the end of its life. got the DL-110 for less than $80, so I'm anxious to compare...
