  1. Eh... at 60 bucks its a bit hard for me to swallow for 3 lps and a docu that I would only watch once.
  2. Reading some of these stories makes me feel good to have never met these obsessive assholes. When I go shopping for records I usually find the experience in browsing to be a very relaxing, I take my time and thumb through everything and if something catches my eye I quickly look at the condition of the record and put it in a pile next to me. I also have a tendency to mutter my thoughts to myself which may annoy people or may just make them think I am crazy, I am not sure. As far as I am concerned though any row that I am not looking in is fair game and I usually start at the opposite end if someone is already looking through that section and when we met just quietly leapfrog around then and check out the row they were on later. At the end of the day there is nothing to get angry about even if someone else nabs up something I wanted before I got to it, hey thats great for them man
  3. I have to admit that when I see people talk about how they are going to buy all the different colored pressings for a single album or that they will drop hundreds of dollars from some special Japanese promo album that they are only going to catalog away only to show others on a blue moon it does kinda annoy me because records were created to be listened to. But at the end of the day it isnt my money so those people can do with it what they want to and it really wont matter to me. On the other hand we have a fellow from r/vinyl whose main crime seems to be that he opens his mouth and talks too much and a shop owner who seems to be a bit immature (after all he should have been mad at the guy who made the deal and didnt fallow through). Lets consider what makes up the reddit vinyl community, it seems like mostly new kids who are in their teens or just went off to college, check out my first (turntable, set up, record...etc) posts, calling 5 thrift store albums a "haul", "Holy Grails" and "White Whales" found every day, wall displays to make sure everyone who visits them *knows* they collect vinyl, and saying...... vinyl's (seems like the word filter wont let me say that straight). I admit that I usually check into r/vinyl once a day just to check out what is going on, but its not exactly the sort of place that you want to go to for informed discussion on the hobby. This guy sounds like your typical redditor kid, you know who during his 6 months collecting went through a "dance music phase"
  4. Bleh, they know that Beatles fans and collectors really want the Mono recordings and its not like they dont already have the mono versions just sitting around waiting to be pressed the moment they say go. This is clearly a cash grab try to and get obsessive types to buy this and then to jump all over the Mono once they inevitably release that as well. Shame on them, but I doubt anyone is shocked by this
  5. Eh... I really wish these were the mono version. I am really kicking myself for not getting the mono box released a couple years ago
  6. I hope you are not implying this is a bad thing. Everyone has to start somewhere
  7. For people actually suggesting that $20 for a single LP is not only reasonable, but the average price, I really have to wonder where you folks are shopping. The only thing I can think of is insound.com because they are easily one of the most overpriced sites on the internet. I am going to use http://www.invinylwetrust.com as an example, I choose this site because 1) I dont feel like linking to all sorts of over sites as well 2) my local record stores do not have decent internet sites and 3) because I find their prices to be reflective of what I see in my local record stores and most internet retailers dealing with vinyl. Just go into the LP section and you will find that the VAST majority of LPs are under $20 and here are some examples, Propagandhi - Failed States which someone suggested retails for $18 only costs $15.99, the Archers of Loaf albums which recent got re-released on vinyl also cost 15.99 a pop, and even the super "hipster" popular band Animal Collective has albums Feels and Sung Tongs which are both 2xLP only cost 15.99. 20 Dollars for a single LP is completely overpriced over the average and what is even worse is that HH records are $20+ from the actual label which is theoretically the cheapest possible place you will be able to obtain these albums because they are being shipped directly from the source without the mark up from a middle man. I think HH has some truly amazing bands on their list like Pelican, Isis, Jesu, OMG, Cave-in, but its no shock to most of us why HH is dying, fancy packaging aside, they just priced most people out of being customers. People say whats the big deal with an extra 4-5 bucks or that if you dont like it then dont buy it... well guess what, it evidently was a big enough deal and people didnt buy it, thats why they are going under.
  8. I dont know where you live, but 20 bucks is far from the norm for a single LP, I usually see single LPs go from 10-16 bucks and a bit more for 2xLP. I love some of the bands on HH, but every time I look at one interested I always see the price and sadly decide to pass and the only ones I have bought in my collection have been because of store discounts. All that aside, it will be sad to see them go because they do have quite a library of great music that they have released and I will be looking out for those discount deals so I can put some more money in their pocket so they can hopefully get their finances somewhat in order
