  1. i've had several records cut more than once, so tests are definitely necessary. i did have one plant press vinyl that wasn't the color i ordered and refuse to credit me or replace them without it coming out of my pocket. i had the replacement color pressed, but still had to pay and i essentially ended up with 350 more records than i asked for when what i wanted was clearly stated on the order form. that's some bullshit.
  2. This is the PL-71 I'll be setting up in the label office as soon as I find a suitable receiver/amp. I've been wanting this particular model for a while and a guy on ebay totally ripped me off on one. I picked this one up a couple of weeks later at a flea market for $30.
  3. do you also use vintage pioneer pre-amps / amps? not right now. i'm actually using a sony digital receiver right now that i'm not too stoked on. i had this amazing kenwood tube receiver, but it was massive and wouldn't fit in (or on) anything i owned, so i'm not using it any longer. i'm always keeping my eye out for a pioneer...

  5. I've only used them twice, but one of the orders for 1,000 LPs cost 519.00 to ship from SF to the east coast. That also included some 2nd day air to Iowa, so it would probably be cheaper than this, especially in zones closer to CA.
  6. Also, if you've not gotten one of these LPs yet and you want one, please PM me. I've got a few copies left that I've saved for the folks in Savannah and any unsold copies will be sold online. Please do not pay eBay prices.
  7. I don't have prices set on anything. PM me an offer, I'll entertain anything reasonable. I'm not looking to retire, just to unload some records and CDs I don't need to help pay the bills while I'm on the road and not getting a paycheck.
  8. I only use 1970s Pioneer turntables. I've got a handful of them. Here's what I'm using now - a PL520.
  9. I've got a box of 7"s I'm going to get rid of. Most of it is late 80s to mid-90s sxe, hardcore, punk, crust, etc, but there are a few things I thought some folks here might be interested in... Pageninetynine - Doc. 11 NOFX - The PMRC Can Suck on This (Fat Wreck) Floor - Seven Inch Record J Church - She Said She Wouldn't Sacrifice Cave In - Anchor (grey vinyl) Welcome the Plague Year / Funeral Diner split Let me know if you are interested in any or all these or if I should post a complete list.
  10. No, I'm touring with Kylesa. Baroness have some vinyl - not sure how long it'll last.
  11. I think I've got some full size theater posters from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. If anyone is interested, they're yours for a couple bucks and postage.
  12. Ok, I'm obviously running behind, but I'm working on getting everything out before I leave for tour. If you've sent a PM or an email and it hasn't been returned, then yes, I got it. I'm going through them one at a time and filling orders as I go so as to not miss anything so its taking me a little longer to answer. Sit tight, its happening. Anything that doesn't ship out tomorrow (or later today, as it were) will go out on monday. I'll be leaving some stuff here with Bossi, the mailorder guy, to handle while I'm out. Also, I just got home from seeing Baroness - their first live show here at home in a year - and it was the shit. If they play the set list on this tour that they did tonight, you're in for something awesome. Also, they've got a new guitarist - Pete Adams of Virginia's VALKYRIE. I'm going to try to get some new video up on the Hyperrealist site soon.
  13. No, its more like asking your customers to proof the art and colors before it goes to press. I've worked in print for over 12 years now. If anything is an error on our part, we replace it. If its an error on the customers part, they pay to replace it. Thats just how it works. I wouldn't say that replacing something thats not your fault is "how a good business works".
  14. It is totally your problem and your fault. ALWAYS get a test press. Its not worth the few days you save. Ask yourself - is it better to have a record early or one that sounds good? This is often the argument between a band and a label when its time to hit the road for tour and a record is late. I personally side with the "good record" argument. The test press is your opportunity to find and fix problems with your record. When you skip that step you forfeit your chance to do so and, by extension, your right to complain about your record if it sounds bad. ALWAYS get tests. Always.
  15. just might be one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. Stoked on this album. http://www.spinner.com/2008/09/16/tv-on-the-radio-golden-age-video-premiere/
  16. East West is just a distributor and part of the WEA group. Lucero's label, Liberty and Lament, is distributed by EW as is a handful of other labels - Volcom, Fearless, etc... I hope they do well. And if they don't, hey, they'll go right back to what they've always done. (Remember the Three Mile Pilot album on Geffen?)
  17. There are a handful of records out there, take the Torche 10" for example, where a dozen different colors exist but rather than collect every variation I just buy the one I think looks coolest. I think its nice to have options. If you want to buy every color, thats fine too. I don't think the labels will burn anyone out - I think the obsessive record buyers run the risk of burning themselves out. I personally don't want to run more than one color (other than black, of course) in the same pressing (although I did do two colors on the Lords/In Tongues split 7"). It definitely happened with comic books. Everyone got so caught up in buying variants and chromium covers until so many were printed that they all became worthless. Hopefully the record buyers are different in that the majority aren't speculators hoping to be sitting on a goldmine in a few years, but are fans of music and the vinyl LP instead.
  18. andywax - True. Also, Matador does great vinyl and its worth every penny.
  19. I remember my family going out to dinner the day this record was released. I made my parents stop at the record shop on the way so I could buy it.
  20. Lucero - That Much Further West Pinback - Summer in Abaddon Motorhead - Ace of Spades Fight Amp - Hungry for Nothing Metallica - Death Magnetic
  21. I'm with you 100%. Metallica hasn't made a good album in 20 years and this one is at least tolerable. I picked up the 2xLP this morning and I'm giving it a listen right now. It almost sounds like it should have come out between Justice and the black album. My biggest complaint is the vocals.
  22. The best part of this video was getting to listen to Ace Frehley doing "New York Groove".
  23. bunit - Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I'll check it out today.
