  1. Ugh. This was kind of a bust. I wanted: White Stripes, Old 97s, Garbage, Bayside, New Found Glory, Elliott Smith, Stooges/Black Keys, Misfits/Lemonheads, Joan Jet, and Wings The first store I went by at 11am (one hour after opening -- I work mornings) was my regular store. They had a bunch of stuff left, but out of what I wanted, only the Elliott Smith 7". No problem, because I had a second store holding a copy of the White Stripes LP for me. I headed to that store, got my White Stripes record, and also grabbed the "mystery" back-to-back 7" because it was literally the ONLY other thing they had left. The guy was super cool and said next year to just call or email with my list and he'll hold things on first-request-first-served basis. He also said that this year was at least 10 times busier than any previous RSD for him, and said that reserving things like that is the only way to do it given how few copies he gets and how many people show up. Then I went by one other store and asked where their RSD stock was. The owner says... "I'll be honest, we don't really do the bullshit limited release record store day stuff. The people who run Record Store Day aren't record store owners, they're just out to make money. I've been getting calls from SO MANY customers asking about the Dead and Phish and White Stripes and Lips releases and a bunch of others, so I just don't choose to order anything because then it just pisses off my customers when I only get a few of each record" Then he proceeds to practically herd me over into his vinyl room where he has tens of thousands of used LPs on floor to ceiling shelves. I start to flip through a few $80 Black Flag records and he flips out telling me "Those aren't BROWSING records! They're very valuable! This Beastie Boys record is worth $500 but if you bend a corner while you're flipping through it, it'll only be a $400 record!" After I rolled my eyes at him, he says "Just tell me what you want and I'll pull the records and show you." Despite my better instincts, I asked about a Bad Religion record that I could see at the front of a stack. He grabs it and shows it to me. I start to take the LP out and inspect the vinyl and he loses his shit again: "DO NOT take the records out of the sleeves! You could damage it!" That was when I said "fuck this" and left. So yeah. I barely got anything I was looking for. I'm especially bummed about missing the New Found Glory, Garbage, and Old 97s records. And then having to deal with the king of the shithead record store owners. Blarg.
  2. Is anyone doing a North Jersey store? ie - not Vintage Vinyl, PREX, or NYC stores? I have one store holding Elephant for me, but they apparently didn't get much else at all. Debating hitting up Tunes Hoboken or Sound Exchange in Wayne around lunch time.
  3. At least 5 of your 8 posts are you shilling your ebay auctions in various threads. I know I'm relatively new here, but that's kind of fucking annoying.
  4. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who only knows him from Blossom. And the Popeye's jingle.
  5. For the record, I'm not hating on his efforts or on the record itself. It's great. Hot topic just needs to get their shit together as an internet retailer.
  6. I pick things up from my local hot topic sometimes, but I would never order from their website. Not that I'd be ABLE to order records from their website when I wanted to, anyway.
  7. Anyone doing RSD lineups in north Jersey? I won't have time to hike down to Vintage Vinyl, so my options are mostly Tunes in Hoboken or SoundExchange in Wayne. Anyone done either of those before, or any other nearby stores?
  8. The idea that a huge retailer like Hot Topic can't manage some way to just exclude records from being eligible for their Hot Cash stuff and have to instead REMOVE IT FROM THE SITE ENTIRELY is kind of ridiculous. Not, it's a LOT ridiculous.
  9. Eh. I touch my records sometimes. Then I clean them if I see anything build up. It's easy enough to give it a wipe down with a record brush and some spray (if necessary) before you shut off the turntable.
  10. I can't imagine paying anything additional for a signed copy of an album when the odds are just as good that the dude selling it just took a sharpie to it himself.
  11. I would have loved a black/white/red tricolor pressing of this, now that you mention it.
  12. The idea for the colors was good. Unfortunately the red just turned out kind of ehhh. Too bad it wasn't the fire engine red from the cover. But it still looks prettier than black, and sounds just as nice, so I can't really complain.
  13. I was not aware the Say Anything/Eisley split got cancelled. Now I'm sad. That was number 3 on my list =[
  14. I grabbed a copy at my local store yesterday. Sounds pretty much on par with my 2009 Reprise pressing. I wish the color was an opaque red/black swirl, because the clear red/black just looks kind of dark and muddy unless you hold it up to the light. Almost black, like a really dark oxblood. Still, I'm glad I finally have a colored copy.
  15. I also got my pink copy, and it sounds very good EXCEPT for a really high level of surface noise. I thought something was wrong with my turntable, but I cleaned the record thoroughly, cleaned the stylus, and checked out another record. This is just a noisy fucking LP. It's not noticeable when the music really kicks in so I wouldn't call it a deal breaker , but when it's quiet, or between songs it's one of the most noticeably noisy records I own.
  16. This one finally got me to join the Vault. I was on the verge for the last one, but never got around to it, but I couldn't pass this one up.
  17. I finally found a local store that will actually hold a couple things (mainly the White Stripes and Joan Jett reissues) for me since I work mornings. Unfortunately the guy doesn't think they're getting the Old 97s / Waylon Jennings double 7", so I may have to scrounge around other stores in the evening, or hit up ebay.
  18. Not sure, but we can account for at least 3 or 4 right here in this thread. Related: It was so fucking awesome to put Death By Television on the turntable tonight.
  19. Well, Todd still gets to hear how each of the twelve side pressings came out, so it's all there to sign off on. Just not in order.
  20. I was thinking that might be the case, since the tests had the standard labels, rather than blanks.
  21. Just got my test pressings! That was fast! They're pretty glorious. Nice high-gloss covers, with really nice heavy-weight black inner sleeves. The packaging is just really, really well done. The way the A-sides and B-sides don't match up is kind of weird. Like, the record in the Backchannel Broadcast jacket will have the A-side of Backchannel Broadcast, but the B-Side of Shit Out Of Luck. They're all mixed up like that. Is that how the box set is gonna be, or is it just a test pressing thing? Regardless, I don't mind. I've heard most of these enough that it'll be interesting to hear them all mixed up. Thank you, again, to Todd for the tests. You're awesome, and I'm super excited to give these a spin. And they arrived just in time to give me some new records to get snowed in with. Now I can't wait to blow a load of cash on the TNR box set after seeing how nicely this came out.
  22. That's exactly my plan. I only own the one LP and two copies of the Mutilate Me EP (shut up, they were 3 bucks each for a blue splatter and a red splatter).
  23. Eh, the first couple TBR LPs are kind of hard to find on vinyl, aren't they? I only own They Came From The Shadows, and I've only ever seen that and Freak Out! at my local stores. So yeah, I'm pretty excited about the TBR box set, especially considering how awesome the packaging sounds.
  24. It's definitely shaping up to be a good year for new releases. I'm still recovering from Bad Religion and Masked Intruder (well, that one's from December), and there's still new Alkaline Trio, Sundowner, Against Me, and Lawrence Arms to look forward to. My poor wallet.
  25. Agreed. As long as there's a sleeve between the bottom of the cube/crate and the actual vinyl it should be fine.
