  1. I don't know if someone already asked, but do you have a timeframe in mind for these? Are you thinking later this summer, or in the fall, or what?
  2. Yeah, my definition of a white whale is something that is RARE. Not just tricky to find. Not just expensive. Rare. As in, even if I had an unreasonable amount of money to offer, there just aren't any out there for sale right now because the few that exist are owned by collectors who are as crazy as me. Either because it's a crazy rare variant, a test pressing, or because most copies were destroyed. This is like, butcher covers, demo tapes, test pressings, acetates, and shit like that. If your goals are lower, that's awesome (and good for your wallet), but I wouldn't call a $100 record that shows up on eBay once a month a "white whale."
  3. The Lawrence Arms - Buttsweat and Tears on purple vinyl (it was limited to 100, for attendees of their anniversary show only) Also, Jawbreaker - Live 4/30/96 (only 206 were pressed, of those only 100 were given to fans in a lottery, of those, many of them were defective. The rest were reserved for the band/friends/family)
  4. At some point in the last 5 or 6 years, Dan eclipsed Matt and became one of the best fucking songwriters in rock and roll. His Trio output lately has been great, and his solo stuff has been phenomenal.
  5. Got my records today. Well packed, shipped CRAZY fast from Canada to NJ, and they are beautiful. Bunch of great records to fill out my Jawbreaker collection that I had been hopelessly searching for. Can't recommend this dude enough.
  6. Only Love alone is the best Trio song in the last 10 years. There are a couple of clunkers on this new album, but there are more than a handful of really great tunes.
  7. Well, to be fair, Italian post is like a scary black hole that subsists by eating records. But yeah, four lost packages in a row? That's a little unbelievable even for Italy.
  8. I've always had the best luck with dry friction. Just quickly rubbing back and forth with your thumb. On some older, really thin paper covers, this can damage the cover, but on most heavier cardstock-style sleeves, it's never caused a problem for me.
  9. I'm also against GITD, and against leaving space in the box set for future releases. I'd rather have a cool color that looks awesome in daylight (which is how I spend 100% of my time looking at my records), and a box set that's sized perfectly for the included records.
  10. !!!!!! Just snagged The Lawrence Arms - Greatest Story Ever Told on burgundy vinyl! One more off my bucket list! The best part? It was a BIN ebay listing, NM, unplayed, for TWENTY DOLLARS. I almost feel guilty. Especially since I just got turned down by two other folks after offering $100 for their copies.
  11. Jawbreaker - Unfun || test pressing (YAAAAAY!) Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre || purple vinyl Weezer - Pinkerton || 4LP deluxe edition I have to say, the actual build construction on that Pinkerton set is incredible. Usually big multi-LP box sets are either chintzy or really unwieldy. This is well put together, easy to flip through, and doesn't feel like it's about to rip apart if I don't hold it right.
  12. Can anyone give me the width of the top of a 1x2 expedit? It's not on the IKEA website, and I want to know if my turntable (MMF 5.1) will fit on the short side of one when it's stood up.
  13. I just saw a copy of Licensed to Ill in a shitty store the other day for $400. The guy kept trying to sell it to me, even after I told him I could get it on ebay for $100. Oddly, he refused to let me hold it and look at it. He claimed I might bend a corner, "and then it becomes a $300 record, and I have to charge you the difference for the damage." A real class act.
  14. Some people believe that starting with a low opening bid generates more interest in an auction, rather than just starting it at, say, $200 if you expect (hope) it to sell at $250. Which is true. Sort of. Most of the flurry of bids come early on for a few dollars at a time. So it will usually end with lots of bids, but whether it'll go for more in the end than an identical auction starting at a higher opening price is debatable. And then there are lots of people who refuse to bid on auctions with a reserve. I NEVER do unless it's a really rare item that hardly ever goes up for sale, like a test pressing. So there's an equally strong case that a low opening bid with a reserve HURTS your final price more than it helps.
  15. Endorsed By You? I honestly don't know what label put it out, but he sells it (on occasion).
  16. What's even worse is when a seller refuses to tell you the reserve when you ask. I mean, Christ, if it's only a little over my max bid, I would have just bid a little higher if you told me, dude. But no, you refuse to disclose it because "that defeats the purpose of a reserve."
  17. Can I bitch in this thread about winning a record twice (from the same seller) without meeting the reserve? Because that's real fucking annoying. I honestly wonder if this dude has like a thousand dollar reserve that will never be met.
  18. If you don't want me to give Virgil money, you need to tell me how else to get Gamits records.
  19. As awesome as the Lillingtons box set was, I have to admit, I'm even more stoked for this.
