  1. those big classic silver amps are undeniably cool. If I had the money/space/expertise, I would love to have something like a Pioneer Spec setup.
  2. got my speakers today. They are quite a bit larger than I was expecting for some reason. I have not placed them in their final home yet, but I hooked them up to my living room system for a bit top make sure everything is functional. No real comparison to be made vs my MA RX1s but they produce respectable low end for a bookshelf and sound good for the price.
  3. why would you reward Audio Technica by throwing more money at them after they sold you a junk product the first time around? Do not let a phono preamp be a barrier to entry. You can get an inexpensive phono preamp that will be at least as good as whatever comes in the AT 120 and then upgrade down the road.
  4. You have to have them hosted someplace. I simply use a facebook photo album and make it viewable only to myself. When you open the picture, you can then copy the URL and post it here.
  5. better solution is probably to move the speakers off the shelf. (speaker stands) get them at ear height and minimize the vibrations. maybe get something solid to place under your turntable. I use a heavy maple cutting board with some anti-vibration neoprene padding underneath.
  6. There are several videos on Youtube showing how to set up this specific turntable.
  7. mine will mostly likely end up pulling double duty as a little stereo setup for the 32" TV in my bedroom and connected to either my Airport Express or Apple TV for occasional tunes. Driving with a Marantz PM5004. I need to find a cheap DAC with optical in and a line-level output to complete the rig.
  8. ordered a pair of these yesterday for a bedroom setup.
  9. it's their 10 year anniversary. There have been a few comments about "back in the day" Riot Fest bands making this year's bill.
  10. this has been plastered everywhere, but it may still be worth mentioning that a lot of people are getting the Debut Carbon for ~$340 from Musician's Friend by calling and asking for their perpetual 15% discount. They stopped taking the codes online some time ago, but they will probably still apply it to a phone order. I cannot fathom spending nearly the same $$ (with the upgrades) and waiting for months to buy from a company with zero track record.
  11. I think that people generally opt for the 3490 over the 3390. May want to read up on some of the reliability issues that these may have. I read quite a few comments indicating that the amp went belly up after 6 months or so.
  12. I think he meant "house sound" as in, a sound unique to the Klipsch brand. it's like if you order the house salad at a restaurant, you get some specific blend greens and a distinctive dressing. It does not taste like a rave party. unless that is their specialty.
  13. every AV receiver I have owned has a stereo mode that bypasses all the surround processing BS and just runs the front L/R channels. If you have a decent receiver and solid front speakers, you should get acceptable results. I was actually looking at my low/mid range Onyko TX-SR608 A/V receiver a few days ago and was suprised to see it had a phono input.
  14. I got these (Monitor Audio RX1) to go with my PM6004 and am pretty happy.
  15. I agree with some of the statements above. If you are going to try the PM6004, you may as well try the built-in phono preamp first and spend a bit more on a solid pair of speakers. I'm using a PM6004 + Pro-Ject Debut Carbon + Monitor Audio RX1s and am pretty happy.
  16. nice LP recording. looks pristine. maple glo rickenbacker is the best rickenbacker.
  17. is that actual grain or a photo-flame situation? in my brain, I know that 'flaming' is a feature of premium wood, but I always associate it with cheap guitars.
  18. basically any set of powered speakers will "work" but you will generally get worse results with a setup like that than a straight stereo configuration. The thing to understand about stereo is that there are 2 channels. Right and Left. A surround type setup can split that 2 channel signal 5/7/9 ways but there is no point. You're just blowing extra money on extra cheap plastic.
  19. most commonly recommended budget powered speaker is (Audio Engine A2). However, at $200, they are above your stated budget. I have a pair of Cerwin Vega XD3 that I used to use for PC speakers. they sounded ok for my purposes, and come in around your budget but I cannot say that I specifically recommend them. I am sure that others will chime in with a few more (probably better) suggestions.
  20. bad choices might work. that 401k is just sitting there collecting dust.
