  1. are you sure the table is set up correctly? I am not experienced enough to differentiate "inner groove distortion" from regular old distortion, but when I first got my table, I needed to run through the set up a few times to get it right.
  2. I always thought the guy was a sweaty moron (or just played one on TV)? I prefer watching hands-off type critter TV.
  3. how can I get my Marantz 2245 to work with my Rokit monitors?
  4. The Muffs The Gits (RIP Mia) The Beautys The Bellrays Wat Tyler (sometimes) - covering Leatherface
  5. It's pretty brutal. the festival grounds were located in an empty paved space in the direct sun until around 6 pm or so when the sun crossed behind some buildings. I'm sure it's fine if you are used to the desert heat, but it was pretty rough on this Wisconsinite.
  6. did you try adjusting the tone knob? crank it up. on a serious note, you are not likely going to get good results with that player. However, if you provide better description of the problem, you may be able to resolve your immediate issue. All I got right now is that records are "sticking" (???!) and that they aren't "turning properly" (?)
  7. you should probably rethink the whole trying to get an 'advance' notion. turning in a piece of paper that says you completed work that you did not actually do sounds a lot like academic fraud.
  8. still trying to figure out you cannot come up with 15 hours over the course of nearly a week to pick up some cans in the park or something. online classes must be rough.
  9. that will get the job done. However, unless you intend to only use the setup for vinyl, you should consider an amp/non-powered speaker set up which will offer more inputs.
  10. I went last year. Not sure I would want to go again. Being from the Frozen North, I am not cut out for standing in a vacant lot in the Las Vegas sun for like 10 hours.
  11. just get 6 pairs of powered studio monitors and chain them all together. wall of sound, bro.
  12. depends a little bit on the price difference, doesn't it? If the store is sticking to the non-close out price of $600 vs the $400 online price, they should realize that they have to at least attempt to be price competive. Mentioning the online price gives them that opportunity. It is, after all, a discontinued model. the updated PM6005 can be had for $700 with digital inputs.
  13. Emotiva only deals direct as far as I know. You should try contacting them. They would likely give you 30 days from date you receive the item for review.
  14. FWIW I keep a space heater next to my setup to maximize warmth. An old toothbrush is good enough for detailing. don't let these snobs tell you any different.
  15. I blame tax returns. an entire nation full of 20 somethings with $600 in their pocket.
  16. there is a difference between powered speakers designed for near-field listening and powered studio monitors. The Audio Engines or Paradigm Shifts should out perform studio monitors at a similar price point or beyond and no doubt sound completely fine for a starter setup. That said, I tend to agree that you get more value in the long run out of a traditional setup and continually upgrading powered speaker sets is a huge waste of $.
  17. in addition to being a well known actor (Stripes/Ghostbusters) he also had an impressive list of writer/director credits (Groundhog Day, Animal House, Caddyshack, Meatballs, Back to School)
  18. I would try swapping out different interconnects and a non-vinyl source and so forth...but probably wind up just returning for a replacement.
  19. Most people here are replacing the steel platter on their Pro-ject Carbons and it's a nice upgrade at ~$100. The resin platter on your RP1 is a little different situation....You can get an acrylic replacement for an RP1 here. $200 seems a bit steep to me. At that point, you might as well be looking at an RP3, right? I don't have much input on speakers. My living room is too small for floorstanding speakers. I have my PM6004 paired with Monitor Audio RX1s that I really like, but I'm sure that others with much more experience can make better recommendations. side note--Accessories 4 Less has the PM6004 for $333.33 for a refurb vs $400 at Music Direct. Worth considering if you are still price shopping.
  20. I work as a technology consultant for a Fortune 100 health insurance company. mostly work with contact center technology. hat trick of evil.
  21. probably depends a little bit on the actual "switcher". those things tend to be cheap junk, but I am sure there are some well made ones out there that would have minimal/no impact.
  22. upgrade that tree branch while you're at it. it's killing your sound.
