I get where you're coming from, and I have the same issue when it happens within a narrow time frame.  Just comes off as... hypocritical, I guess you could say.  And while it's silly to say that anyone - band or otherwise - are granted permission to "go back" on their ideologies after X amount of years, I still don't think it's heresy to shift perspectives as time goes on.  Reminds me of Godspeed touring with NIN a few years ago.  They were receiving so much shit because their early material carried that anti-government / anarchist / "fuck the system" theme... yet here they were, touring in luxurious buses and playing arenas.

I don't necessarily think of that as "selling out" in the least.  They've got families and priorities, etc. etc.  The moment they start branding themselves and selling their name, I'd lose considerable respect... but for whatever reason it just doesn't bother me.  It's like their artistic integrity is still intact, even if they're not as angsty about the government as they used to be.  I don't know, maybe I'm alone in that one.  I don't expect Refused to have the same fervor or stances that they had 17 years ago, but I also don't think that they lost all credibility because they turned to a decent producer instead of going DIY.  Ultimately, the music on Freedom will determine how we should really be feeling about the band reforming after all this time.  Who knows? - maybe they should've ended on a good note, and stopped while they were ahead.  It's certainly possible.  I'm just trying to keep an open mind and not fault them for being a little less adamantly anti-capitalism, this time around.

Really excited for this release. I'll have to check out the other bands in the title of this thread. I do already know Maps & Atlases though.

I'd really like a copy just like the title says with Anomalies Vol. 3 for a reasonable price. I realize there's a UK seller on Discogs for not that expensive, but I thought I'd check here first. I may be willing to trade depending.

Tom Delonge's UFO got a reaction from MatthewTerbeek in Does it seem like Epitaph has been killing it and Fat has been just decent?
I agree completely that Fat hasn't really deviated and Epitaph has put out some complete shit.
When I was in high school (in the late 90s) both Epitaph and Fat both churned out the best bands. Now, it seems that Epitaph will recognize when a band is on the verge of blowing up and catapult them to that next level. Fat seems to be subsisting just below that. Maybe, I'm off base, but that's where the comparison comes from in my view.

I remember Silver Scooter. I was introduced to them from the (Don't Forget To) Breathe comp when I was 16.  So many good bands on there.

I don't mean for this to start a "which label is better" (although, I do recognize I'm on the Internet), but it just seems like Epitaph has been getting the best bands. From Propagandhi, The Menzingers, The Lawrence Arms, and now Joyce Manor. Fat definitely has its current active standouts like Masked Intruder, Bad Cop Bad Cop, Strung Out, and Banner Pilot, but don't have the same energy they used to.

I also realize that Epitaph puts out ALOT of shit, but it's fairly easy to ignore that nonsense.

What do you think? Am I totally off base? Would love to hear what everyone thinks.

Tom Delonge's UFO got a reaction from MatthewTerbeek in Why the fuck did I sell that?
According to Google, pretentious means, "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed." You are saying that musical value is of greater importance than monetary value. It can be debated as to what has more importance, but that is a case by case basis. No one appointed you judge and jury about what has more value to someone.

I regret a ton of stuff I have sold that is not expensive, but if I start a thread saying, "I'm so upset that I sold The Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island, Burn" (a record that has many pressings) it doesn't really matter because a copy is easily obtainable, not to mention the amount of "who cares" comments I would get.

I don't want records because they are "expensive," I just regret selling something that would become hard to purchase without spending hundreds of dollars.
