collecting variants/ complete-ism
slinch replied to xlovecolouredx's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I always had an obsession collecting stuff. I collected fountain pens, lighters, stamps, but I gave up on everything because I didn't use any of it (I'm not a writer, I don't smoke, and stamps are just useless). So when I started buying records, with a band I really loved this obsession came into place again. What I really cannot stand is some of the people that buy only one copy of each record act like they're so much better than variant collectors. Fuck, I'm sure you spend your money on some other shit I would find completely stupid, but I don't think I'm any better than you because of that. Every person has some hobbies/obsessions, with some this just happens to be collecting variants. -
I don't know how far people are prepared to go for nofx promo CDs, but I've seen promos of some bands I collect go over $350, so I don't think $20 is a big deal really. I don't think that's any crazier than spending $350 on a record.

Ultimate piece of movie memorabilia

Shit, I don't know if you're serious, but that was my exact first thought. -
Did anyone compare the sound from the original and the 180g repress? I bought a repress of Tom Waits' Closing Time for around $14, which is a really good price where I live (all 40 or 50 records that are available are priced over $25 a piece, and in the only second hand shop here I have yet to find a record for under $15, and most of them are in poor condition). Anyways, I hesitated a bit because I heard bad things about represses sound-wise, but I don't think I'd be able to find a used copy for under $20 so I bought the repress.

That's what I do.

I bought AFI's "The Art Of Drowning" and "Black Sails in the Sunset" together in 2006. My first ebay vinyl purchase and my second ever vinyl purchase.

I hate getting records in the mail
slinch replied to circlingvultures's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Do they charge you for each individual record, or only for packages of more records? -
Caleb Lionheart! 2nd Press Coming VERY VERY SOON.
slinch replied to chaps's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I hope there will be a package deal for all the variations of the second press. I've spent so much hunting down the first press and I'm still missing a couple. -

Ronniethebear is stoked to have your copy. I bought it from the DF store when 3 copies went up for sale. So I'm not blaming ronniethebear for this one. -

I was really hoping to get that Arms Aloft test. I am so bummed that the copy I bought from DF never showed up -
lookin for teenage bottlerocket live in '06
slinch replied to dutchrudder's topic in Sale/Trade/Wants
I saw that /1 on popsike. It's "half red half black". I'd say that one is the best looking. http://www.popsike.com/Teenage-Bottlerocket-live-06-LP-only-1-done-like-this/250270438999.html -
I found this in a local store yesterday. It was $65 because people are stupid and think records and record players don't exist anymore, so this little baby was sitting there for over a year and they decided to just get rid of it. One of the best purchases I made this year.

anybody know what turntable this is?
slinch replied to radioclash27's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
This looks very similar to Michell orbe TT, but that one doesn't have the acrylic base. EDIT: It's actually the more expensive version of Orbe, that will set you back for around $4500. The tonearm is a Wilson Benesch a.c.t., so that's an additional $1200-$1700. And these are relatively "cheap" for the high-end enthusiasts. Those dudes should give some of their dough to me. -
Come on guys, you really should stop lying to this dude. amprobyn, you can turn your own CDs into vinylzzz, you just need two pieces of glass. You put a CD between them, apply a great pressure on top and put everything in the oven. When the CD stretches to 12" in diameter you have yourself your very own vinylsj. Then you paint it black or whatever color you want and scratch it in circles for that "vintage" look.

I believe it's /25. I have no idea where to look for one. -
I've missed out on everything except the regular version and I really hate myself for that, because it's the best thing I heard in a long time. I know those just started arriving, but if anyone is in a tight spot and could let any other version of this go, I'm prepared to pay big bucks for it.
