Categorizing this thread as "hot topic" on the front page is totally misleading. The onyl source I#ve found was: http://www.factmag.com/2014/03/07/wes-anderson-soundtrack-box-set-coming-in-2014/

Spiderland77 reacted to fallenmatador in A discussion about record flippers
At the end of the day, these are all just meaningless rants from people with too much time on their hands and not enough friends. People like me, who abuse work hours to troll you uptight pussies. People are always gonna flip out over decimal places assigned to a piece of wax. I'm gonna flip the new Mondo release, of corse, of corse. And in time nothing will matter, the sun will engulf the earth as it expands into a red giant. We'll all be gone and our precious collections will be for nothing.
So why not shift focus on things that do matter for the little time we have left on this earth? Topics like who wants to buy the latest Mondo release The Last of Us, 325ppd? Ships media mail.

I once killed a record flipper. When the cops showed up, I told them what happened and they let me go without arrest.

He never flipped. But when he did, he was doing it at average market value. And if it wasn't at average market value, it was what the person thought it was worth. What is so hard to understand about that for you guys?

Man I really like you and don't get your beef with me. I only post with vitriol sometimes because people here are so quick to demonize without any recourse.

The entire point of this topic is that selling OOP records for their average market value is not flipping and yet some people here can't grasp that simple concept.
Furthermore, if I wanted to sell a record for 6000 dollars and someone bought it, that's because THAT IS WHAT THAT RECORD IS WORTH TO THEM. If you disagree just don't buy it.

The hobby is right!
Though I don't agree with buying multiple copies of a record with the sole intention of selling them for a profit, I have sold records for more than what I've paid. If it's a record that I no longer want or listen to, I generally just trade it off for something I will, without taking a record's 'value' into account; however, I have sold records on eBay for a profit because I needed to buy food since I was jobless for the first 6 months after moving to DC.

All of you are right, but all of you are also wrong. Consider my experience a few months ago, seemingly right out of the pages of an Ian Flemming novel.
So I was in Urban Outfitters casually browsing the LP section, meandering through the day without cause. When I spot 3 copies of Panda Bear's Person Pitch, still in the shrink. I had bought my copy two years before for $12 dollars. These copies were going for $13 each. Note that during this time (few weeks back) Person pitch had become a reclusive gem; some where to be found at concerts and maybe their online site, but individuals selling them through discogs and amazon had them priced at $35-$50 dollars. So, no sooner than I blink, I snatch three copies for a total of less than $45.
Here is where the rub lies, and the discussion begins. Because although it may seem like a moral debate, its simply a behavioral concept that has fashioned itself from every discussion alluding to a seller and a greater fool.
I put each of them up for $100 each on amazon. All three sold within a month, God knows why. The moral of the story is, fuck em.
BTW, I bought a copy of Mondo's The Last of Us for the board, will sell at cost. Just pay shipping for a total of $350ppd.

Spiderland77 got a reaction from MahPah in PO: Modest Mouse - Building Nothing Out Of Something/Interstate 8-Live at Sunburst Montana
erm, seems like I didn't make myself clear here. I already got both of them on black vinyl and I've ordered the colred ones too AND now I am uncertain if these are really the colored variants as there is no sticker on them. There's no sense to me to own two black copies for each release and if I open them I can't return them. Hence, my question...is there a sticker on them? THANKS!

I've found what works best is to shake them really hard side to side. You can identify the colors by the sound the dust inside the sleeve makes rubbing against it. Give that a try.

You did make yourself clear. The fact that you flip multiple records on discogs (MM are among them) makes it all too obvious that your copies of the colored variants will show up there for insane prices in a couple weeks and that's why you are keeping them sealed. This is not the place you should be looking for help.

I got the colored versions of both BN and I8 today..at least I think so. Can anybody tell me if there's supposed to be a sticker on the record that says so? Last time (LCW..) there was a sticker and I don't want to open them up as I already have them on black vinyl...THANKS!!!
