We got our first shipment of Soylent (powder) today. The plan is to use it to replace one meal a day. The way our schedules are makes it really hard to prep lunch, so most of the time we say fuck it and eat out. It works out to about $1.50 a day each, which is way fucking cheaper than even just grabbing fast food.

If you've ever made your own bread, it tastes like bread batter. It's really weird but not unpleasant.

I bought a bag but haven't used it yet. I don't even know what I'm supposed to mix it with. Water? I could just google it.

I loved it when I visited last year - been trying to make a move since haha. And yes! VC NW is the best!

Brand Specialist - sounds a lot like marketing I believe? I'm really not 100% - but my cousin works there and loves it. She got the chance to meet Aaron Paul and I will be forever jealous.

Much yum to the ice cream - I can dig it! If you are interested, The Highline in Capitol Hill has some awesome vegan dishes, and solid music choices.

Ah cool. I don't really know too much about that role but  I'm sure the interview will go well!  keep us updated.  It would be cool to have another VC friend in the area.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm eagerly waiting for my first paycheck so I can really enjoy Seattle. =)

Seattle :D If I pass the exam I have this week, I hear they'll fly me out for an extensive interview

nice!!  I'm excited there is a big VC population in Seattle!  I've only been here a few weeks but I recommend going to Molly Moon.  It.is.amazing .    http://www.mollymoon.com/flavors

why type of role are you applying for?  I hear Amazon is pretty cool to work at.  I've  only managed to visit one of their buildings here but it was really nice inside.

I was wondering how the new Seattle people were enjoying the city when it snows!  I can see I-5 from my yard and no cars are moving at all, haha

people were driving pretty bad out there. I saw a car slide down the hill sideways this morning and I definitely waited before crossing that street. luckily i just had a 5 min walk to work so it was an easy commute for me.

I have a job interview for a studio coordinator position at School of Rock next week. I'm pretty fucking stoked on it. Between the insanely nerdy email I sent the manager/owner, my obsession for music, my work experience, my years of touring, and the fact that a family friend (who works in radio) knows the owner, referred me, and talked me up, my chances are pretty damn good. The gig is my kind of hours, only 25 minutes away, and most importantly revolves around music. For anyone who isn't familiar with School of Rock, it's a music school just like how they do at the end of the movie, but bigger - so it's a music school. Fingers crossed for this, cause it's a job I can do well, somewhere I'd actually want to work, there's room for growth, and most importantly I can talk about music all day long!

This can be my life now:

this sounds like an amazing career for you!  best of luck, you're a great fit for it.

The aquarium and MoPOP (formerly EMP) fall on the touristy end of the spectrum, but are both worth going to.  Also a dynamite vegan Chinese place by MoPOP.

T - Look into OneBusAway if you haven't (can't remember if I mentioned it before).  It doesn't plan trips for you, but it gives you real accurate bus times and lists/maps stops.  Makes figuring out which bus to take and when you need to leave a lot easier.

Also, there is a cask beer festival at the end of March.  Think that's something you both might be interested in.  It's decently priced and they're a good way to try a ton of local breweries.

just downloaded this and yessssssss.  this is gonna help big time!  thanks!

beer fest sounds awesome!  Can you post a reminder when it's close? maybe all three of us can meet and hang.B)

How did it go with the team T? I just finished my first week at the new place, weird being the new guy.

Office itself is amazing though. Beautiful. Plus they keep it stocked with food and drink.

luckily they hired 30 of us so I'm in a pack of being the new person.  we are doing classroom training for about 4 weeks and then we split into our teams we got placed on.  I don't think i'm allowed to go into detail but me and two others got placed on the Cortana team and that section seems freakin awesome!

I'm glad to hear  you had a good first week! Have you done any tourist stuff?  I went to the pike place area and had really good homemade apple cider but I'm sure there is a lot more to be seen.

It sounds like you got a great view from your office! Are you working in Seattle or outside of it? My team is in Bellevue so I'll be working from there soon instead of Redmond.

we don't get free food but drinks are free. Been drinking lots of weird stuff like coconut water and orange juice in a tiny can and these weird flavored waters.

Have you been using public transport?  I kept getting lost on it.

sounds like we both are really diggin this move!B)

I'm leaning towards turning it down. I want to move, so it'd look bad to take it and work for a few months then move.

i don't think it would look bad.  i think you should take the job to get out of the job you currently hate. but that's just my opinion.  who knows what doors this job can open for you.

Well I got offered the job I interviewed for last week, the PC Deployment one. I might pass though. It sounds less like what I want to do, even though it is hands on with PCs. I'd essentially be setting up computers, then walking people through policies and making sure all the programs they want are there. I'd still work here, but with a different contracting company. I don't want to be a contractor anymore, there is a weird divide between contracting and corporate employees with how we are treated and how we are paid/vacation/etc. We get boned. Plus it's $3/hour less. Need to decide by tomorrow....

i'd say do it.  it's something different and it sounds like you need a change in your workday.

    Holy Mountain is awesome.

I work in Pioneer Square. It seems like it could get a little weird at night, especially under the highway down by Western. I've seen some crazies running around but it doesn't seem to bad.

Some parts of 3rd downtown can get sketch at night I've heard but haven't seen it. What part of the city are you staying?

I'm  doing an AirBnb in Redmond. It's a nice 5 min walk to work:).  I've been to seattle a few times and keep getting lost but it's been cool so far.  Hopefully I don't wander into Pioneer Square at night.

What was it about SF that creeped you out?  I believe it's pretty safe here at night.  I've heard Pioneer Square can get pretty shady at night, but I haven't really experienced that.

SF has spots are are completely fine and then you'll walk into a really scary part and have to walk pretty fast until you're past it.  I also was probably living in a bad part of town, SOMA.  I almost got attacked twice.  I was walking on market and come guy ran up and grabbed my shoulders and kept saying sorry but wouldn't let go and then suddenly just took off running.  Another time I was standing waiting for my friend and I was behind a door with bars and some guy came up and tried grabbing me through the bars and I stepped back and then he just started kicking the door and then left.  Really freaky!    I tend to get pretty freaked when strangers start talking to me and a lot of that happened in SF.

oh and the homeless guy across the street where I lived in SF owned a gun.

I'm not sure if I've been to Pioneer Square yet. I went to wherever the place with the first starbucks was and it was pretty cool. found a place that sold apple-pear cider.  pretty awesome.

No, have had a few interviews and phone interviews but nothing is really jumping out at me. I think I just want to move too bad, but keep having mental set backs. Had a horrible panic attack, out of no where earlier, felt like I was having a heart attack. I need to get my anxiety, and possibly health back in control before I can move somewhere. I really on my parents and friends too much, for situations like this. Won't be able to do that in a new place for a while. I have not had a linkedin profile since they got hacked, but I probably should set one up again.

i'm sorry to hear about your panic attack.  My sister gets them pretty bad so I can sort of understand how bad it is.

I highly recommend linkedin..  I would go on there and look for companies and then recruiters for the companies and then just blindly message them with my quick pitch about myself.  It's a great angle to come at. I think a lot of recruiters like networking on there.  A lot of them will send out messages to you.

I would recommend adding a lot of people on there.  It helps to grow your network. You can add me on there if you want  (Taraneh BigBow).

So much good stuff!!!  Just going to list breweries that I'd recommend trying something from : Fremont Brewing, Holy Mountain, Georgetown (I'm not a big fan of Manny's, but almost everyone loves it.  You can find it everywhere.  Other stuff is quite good), Boneyard and Fort George Brewing are what came to mind.  You'll find there's no shortage of great breweries here!

I really liked it.  It has such a dynamite cast!

yesss thanks!  I copied that all down and will slowly make my way through some of them.  I went to the Tipsy Cow and was floored by all their choices.  Oklahoma did not have a great selection...
