  1. What's your top 5/top 10? Doesn't necessarily have to be vinyl, but on my list, 9 out of 11 are available on vinyl, so I put a link to the site you can find it the cheapest (to my knowledge) in case you missed out. I feel like I haven't been as adventurous this year as I have been in years past. It's always the start of the next year when I get into a ton of great records from the year before that I missed. 10. TIE Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line - http://www.barsuk.com $15 - Orange Vinyl Although it just made it, this one had to be on my list. It is still the only cd in my car right now (usually use the ipod). But when I forget the pod, this one's on repeat. This debut album consists of all the songs from earlier releases altogether with a real producer and real label. I'll be interested to see what the future brings. 10. TIE Coldplay - Viva La Vida - http://www.bestbuy.com $14 I've always been a fan of Coldplay. They never cease to try something new. This time they may have gone a little too far off the path, but still some really great tunes. 9. Anathallo - Canopy Glow Not the nostalgic Anathallo we knew from years ago, but a very mature, polished Anathallo. This is the music they were really meant to make. One of the most beautiful albums of the year. Buy this if you haven't. Don't expect Holiday at the Sea though, this is a different band, well deserving of the name. 8. Starflyer 59 - Dial M For Martin - http://www.burnttoastvinyl.com $13 What is this? His 20th record? Doesn't matter. It's good. Really good. Only one song I'm not a big fan of, the rest flowwwssss 7. Denison Witmer - Carry The Weight - http://www.burnttoastvinyl.com $12 Yellow Vinyl One of my favorite singer/songwriters. I really don't think he's capable of making a record I don't like. Some more songs you want to sleep to. 6. Flight of The Conchords - Flight of the Conchords - http://www.subpop.com $14 No one was expecting this not to be a good record. All the songs from the show, rerecorded in the studio. So good. 5. Sigur Rós: Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust - http://www.insound.com $19 2LP Not my favorite Sigur Rós record yet, but the worst Sigur Rós record, is still going to be one of the best of the year. This one's a little more upbeat than years past, but has so many layers and themes; I notice something different I like with each listen. 4. Copeland - You Are My Sunshine Super surprised by this one. As much as I like their older records because they were so good back then, I've never been as impressed with Copeland as I have been with this record. Seems like they are finally writing music they were meant to. Rumor has it this will be on vinyl early in '09. This one sounds like it was made for vinyl. 3. Beck - Modern Guilt - http://www.acousticsounds.com $16 I've been a fair-weather Beck fan since Odelay. Odelay's always been my favorite, but not anymore. You can really hear that DangerMouse (Gnarls Barklay) helped produce this one. Feels more like a band, and less like a guy. But some of these beats are really something. Couldn't turn this one off for a while. 2. Ryan Adams - Cardinology - http://www.acousticsounds.com $18 Red Vinyl + 7" This guy can do no wrong. Enough Said. 1. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely - http://www.acousticsounds.com $30 2LP I'm so surprised to see this one absent from so many best of 2008 lists. I've always been a fan of Jack White and the White Stripes, and though this is different, I think this is some of his best and most accomplished work to date. Best opening track of the year, hands down. Get this one on vinyl if you haven't yet. Looking forward to 2009 Coming Out Appleseed Cast David Bazan Franz Ferdinand Phoenix Hasn't announced a release, but overdue for one Mew
  2. did somebody bring it in on a trade or something? usually, people will bring in a bunch of stuff for quick cash, so they probably ended up getting something like $8 for it. oops.
  3. hah... just for fun about a year ago, i asked my local record store to put this on hold, in case a copy ever came in. they called me a few weeks ago, to let me know it was in and being held for a week. i payed $16 for a near-mint copy. I love this record.
  4. few to none of us have set-ups that will let us hear any difference in quality between a colored and black record of the same weight. Usually the grooves aren't any thicker on 180 Gram records, but they are way less likely to warp, and heavy records just feel better. Good Model: 800 Black, 200 Color A Good Model: 500 Black, 300 Color A, 200 Color B etc... Bad Model: 300 Black, 300 Color A, 300 Color B, 77, Color C, 50 Color D, 35 Color E, 20 Color F, 12 Color G, 7 Color H, 3 Color C with D and F Splatter. If you couldnt tell, I was trying to remember pressing info for one of the recent Saves the day records done by cobraside. that pressing sucks.
  5. Depends on the record. For bigger records, black is fine. I don't need the new franz ferdinand on color. But for smaller indie releases of a really good record, I like to have it on black as well as maybe a really cool looking color. But usually just solid colors, none of this splatter shit.
  6. i hate fucking labels that are ran like this. think they own the whole gaddamned recording industry. any bands that sign with labels like this are dumb. what's their biggest band? new found glory? look where they are now.
  7. for a death cab album, it sucks. in the grand scheme of themes, it's good music. i like plans, but it was a little dissapointing. this was more dissapointing than plans. if it was some new band, i'd say it's a good record. but death cab's bar is much higher.
  8. haven't decided how we're gonna do it yet. i think everyone who orders the record will get an email as to when and how they will be on sale and some we might give away randomly. we'll see.
  9. Just make sure when they're out, you buy them from my site instead of deepelm's!
  10. i also designed some sweet test press jackets. i'm super pumped for em.
  11. Okay, I was gonna wait until the release was a little further along, but deep elm already let the cat out of the bag (so to speak). Dreamover Records's first release will be Brandtson's 2002 Deep Elm full-length, Dial In Sounds. This is one of my favorite records, and I am excited, more than anything, to have it on vinyl myself. It'll be limited to only 500 copies, and will come on three different colors including one color, which will be exclusive to our website. We are also planning on having some release-related bonuses for certain orders, but more info on that later. We are looking at a february release. http://www.dreamoverrecords.com
  12. the master recording is on its way to me, the artwork is getting approved by band and label. announcement and full website next week!
  13. why does everyone flip out when someone tries to make a profit on a record here? if you already have it, then what are you complaining about? and if you don't and won't spend that much then not buying it should be a big enough "fuck you". i can't stand circa survive, but i bought both records cause i know they're in demand and will eventually find someone who doesn't want something else i really want and want these. there's nothing wrong with investing in something like this. too bad for the people that missed it. they had just as much chance to get it.
  14. no way. i bought all the radiohead and all the coldplay albums (EMI original import pressings) for $50 each (minimum) and then a year later, they all get rereleased for about $25 each. $25 for the X&Y box set or ok computer (or any readiohead record for that matter) is not a bad deal at all.
  15. deadbeat sweetheartbeat (their last album) was really good. they pretty much did it independently. and it pretty much came out overnight. it was on my top ten for 2006.
  16. i wish i could put it out. but epic records would be a bitch to work with. my buddy has ran into brett detar a few times at his church in LA, maybe i should get him to get me in contact with him.
  17. cool. the speakers should help a lot.
  18. yeah, that's a pretty bad set up. ion makes horrible turntables and you really shouldnt hook it up to computer speakers. chances are the wires and adapters to get from the turntable to the speakers is going to add noise and loose quality. it's possible that the preamp is too much for the computer speakers. i'd first get new speakers, once that don't require ton's of adapters. that should make a difference, then think about a new turntable eventually. you could get a decent gemini for not too much. when i had issues with my set up, it was the cartridge i was using. a good cartridge makes tons of difference.
  19. The more I listen to this, the more I like it. Still can't listen to Love though. love would be so incredible on vinyl. it really is their best record. its a great rock n' roll record. understand and emotion are good, but they're just very nostalgic. that's why people like them. if understand this is a dream came out today, it would be crap. if you don't listen to love as a JT record, and just listen to it all the way through, you'll see. it has some incredible songs.
  20. Thanks, I took it myself. I'm running the label out of chicago (the greatest city in the world) so it just made sense.
