  1. Interesting how a bunch of stores have this back in stock. Did this get a repress?

Not sure... it's odd because all of the sellers seem to be in Europe, though the record seems to be printed in the US... Do you think they pressed more for Europe?  Or was the release delayed for Europe?

  2. Hey guys this Nic from Cartel. Here to clear up any questions you guys may have. This isn't some official statement, just me needing to get it off my chest.

I've been monitoring all the "hear say" the past few days but haven't really gotten involved with this ordeal, frankly I hate that it has created all this drama. We always seem to gravitate towards drama. Hah.

I think this release just caught me, as well as the other guys, by suprise. We(the band) literally had no idea or heads up this was happening. Honestly I consider it a compliment that someone would want to release our pressings for us. We certainly dropped the ball on getting a chroma vinyl out. A lot of it was timing, legal & financial issues. We are an independent band now in the US so everything we make or sell literally puts food on our table.

We wanted (& still will of course) to make the 10yr anniversary vinyl for chroma very special, with a lot of extra goodies in the packaging. So when we saw this, it took a little bit out of us. It bummed me to see chroma vinyl out before we could add anything to it.

I don't hate ETR for pressing chroma, nor do I condone fans from buying it. could we potentially loose $ over it, yes probably, nothing were not used to in this industry. But I do wish communications between all parties (Cartel, ETR, epic) were better so we weren't caught so off guard. Not this "he said, she said". When company ink pressed 'the ransom' were very involved with them on the process. I wish the same would have been for ETR. Again ETR is well within their right to do this & I'm flattered for them actually doing it. I do feel we deserved to know when it was happening, not kept out of the loop (all good, I'm used to being out of the loop, at the end of the day we just show up to play & have a good time with all of you, as it's always been....except for that bubble thing(but who wouldn't pass up that opportunity. No regrets).

Chroma is our baby, so we defend it as such. It doesn't matter if we sold our souls to the industry, in the end we made Chroma for all of you. Thank you ETR for doing this, & thank you guys who have supported us.

    Nic

No one faults you for being, "Bummed," that someone pressed Chroma before you had the chance to.  However, it was in poor taste to publicly badmouth the label that beat you to the punch and childishly claim that your (The band's) pressing will be better when you've (The band) also claimed that you (The band) know nothing about the current release.

Also, anything posted online via Twitter, AP, or VC does not need a preface of whether it is an, "Official Statement," or not.  If it comes from a member of the band, or a member of the band's camp it is an official statement... Which is why words should be chosen with care and caution and not childishly tweeted to the world.

  3. You know what's great? As an architect, in your contract, the drawings you create belong to you. They are simply used by an owner/contractor to make a building. I know that's not how the music industry works (typically), but it sure would be nice. Maybe one day things will change for the better (if they aren't already).

How exactly would that be for the better?  Bands typically sign to a label because they don't have the significant funds or means to put out a quality record, market their album, receive radio / film / tv placements, tour support, etc.  Should a label not be paid for their financial investment, risk, and work involved to develop an artist's career?

  4. The only reason that makes sense to me that the band would be upset is because the more copies that ETR sells now, the less they'll likely sell when they do their own *special, epic* version. Sucks that they made it out to be something that it isn't on social media.

This.  It comes down to money.  Cartel's feelings are hurt that someone beat them to an opportunity to make a little bit of money, and now they are being bullies / children about it on social media.

  5. Some people don't seem to understand that a record label is mostly an investment firm that has an interest in music.  At the end of the day, Cartel was paid by Epic for the rights to Chroma, and it is now in Epic's hands to gain a profit on their investment (ie, licensing it to a third party).  This is called business.  Neither Epic nor a contracted third party need the band's permission as it was already granted in the initial contract.  For the band to badmouth the pressing of an album that they sold the rights to is complete nonsense, unprofessional, and in bad taste.  If they wanted to protect their art and release it the way they see fit, they shouldn't have signed a contract with a major label.

  6. Yeah. They open some merchandise in store. Usually the last copies of a record. They display the sleeve on the wall and keep the record behind the counter in a used outer sleeve.

The records are probably fine and just not in shrink.

If I was buying them for myself I wouldn't really mind so much, but I wish that it was noted since I purchased them for others as gifts.  I found the same titles elsewhere, so I'm just going to buy from them and ship these back to Reckless.

  7. I ordered three RSD items from Reckless and they arrived yesterday open and without shrink wrap in tact.  I emailed them about it and they  responded unapologetically saying that they took these measures to ensure that the albums weren't defective.  I bought the items to give as gifts, so I'm sending them back as I don't want to give an unsealed album as a gift.  Has anyone else experienced this from Reckless?
