  1. See, this to me indicates that it's more about personal taste than what Mondo has done differently, recently. Black Swan and BTTF are both examples of what Mondo has been transitioning to and doing for the better part of two years now. BTTF is a blockbuster/nostalgia property like Guardians, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, Aliens, etc and Black Swan is a mainstream film/composer with a cult following in line with their Shore, Wingo, and other Mansell releases. I'm not giving you a hard time, mind you, just intrigued. I bought every Mondo release up to the point where I realized I wasn't really listening to a lot of them anymore and just sort of collecting for its own sake. Now I still buy plenty from them, but I also leave a lot on the table.
  2. Yeah, The Fountain, will be a welcome release for a lot of folks. Including Mansell apparently.
  3. Out of curiosity, what were some of last/most recent releases you did enjoy? I feel as though as Mondo has grown, they have largely left the more niche stuff to other labels and focussed on larger, more widely marketable properties that appeal to a broader group of collectors the way Ghibli or JP did. The horror and cult films done in house seem to be Death Waltz releases and those done outside the Mondo umbrella are often distributed by them. I think there's still as much interesting stuff on the Mondo site as ever; maybe more. However a lot of it is being done by other folks. Meanwhile, I'd wager a lot more people know who Mondo is thanks to BTTF, BTAS, Disney properties, and the like.
  4. Still, they weren't sold out at 11:59. Maybe your power went out and your clock is a little slow? That happens to me sometimes. Check the VCR and see if it's blinking. That's a surefire way to tell.
  5. They didn't sell out that quickly. The cassettes didn't go live until 12 on the nose. There were tapes up until at least 12:05.
  6. Fair point. This is more in line with what I am wondering about. I know plenty of labels sell cheaper vinyl because I buy it, but there are loads of things to take into account. For Milan, they have extremely nice packaging, are colored vinyl pressed at a good plant, they have to license both the music from the composer/studio and the image and naming rights for a studio since they are not a traditional label with a roster of bands. Then there are the costs of new, original art that a lot of companies like Milan commission not to mention the fact that their packaging is superior to a lot of (not all) budget labels. And pressing numbers. Anyhow, I expect to pay a premium for thing like this, but I was truly stunned to see IDIB selling 200 copies of this record, new, at half price. That is wild to me. When Mondo had these for sale they were $36! I never expected the profit margin to be quite that...robust. The other thing is that this isn't an IDIB record, it's a Milan release. A release that has been $32-36 everywhere I've seen it with one exception: IDIB at $17. That is an oddity. I can't think of a current release at least a dozen other stores, label included, sold for twice as much as another store that was merely distributing it.
  7. Not to be glib (I appreciate the response), but no shit. I understand how IDIB does business. My question is what is the actual markup here? Were these a gift? Scratch n dents to be had on the very cheap? If not, the markup on these records was enormous. Presumably IDIB are making some profit here even if it's only a few bucks, but are we really paying $35 for a record that cost $10-15 per unit?
  8. How can IDIB afford to sell these at $17? That is crazy cheap. It's half as much as the label is selling them.
  9. Same here. I passed on the cube, though. Cool idea, but someone out there would love iI more. The black tapes honestly look really sharp though. I like the color scheme/design just as much as the pink.
  10. Huh? What? Where? Please this. Excellent sophomore release, Mellowtooth! Really looking forward to this'n as well. Damn fine stuff.
  11. Nice work. Those aren't my style, but they were sharp looking prints. The Jurassic Park and Batman utility belts look good as well.
  12. The only other tape I can think of is the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Am I missing any more?
  13. Agreed 100% and maybe even covering their butts with the same demographic, whom they cater to because money, but aren't really themselves. Well...obviously.
  14. Are you lumping Twin Peaks in because you are as excited for it as OTGW or because you believe it to be a SDCC release?
  15. I wish that Out Run had gotten a cassette release. A perfect score for the format.
