  1. The Mercury Program - Chez Viking (Blue) Let The Know - The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records Boxset
  2. My girlfriend bought the same turntable for Christmas a couple years back. Still working great! Glad to hear it! It was pretty cheap and bare-bones in terms of features, but it seems to do the trick. I love Thrice, btw. Great avatar.
  3. My girlfriend just bought me: Audio Technica ATPL50 turntable (the one I inherited from my parents finally crapped out) Set Your Goals - This Will Be The Death of Us LP Sigur Ros - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust 2xLP A Charlie Brown Christmas LP Good stuff.
  4. I'm a few posts late, but I'm so excited to hear about Bring Me Your Love getting released on vinyl. It's probably one of my favorite albums in a long time.
  5. Did you order their 1 record? Yep, it was the Punchline / Over it 7" split when they were selling all music for 50% off.
  6. Oh, I forgot to mention that I also had a great experience with TDR Records a couple weeks ago. Shipping was quick, and the owner (Mike) wrote a cool handwritten thank-you note on the back of an Office quotes calendar. Sometimes the tiniest cool gestures really stand out, and I'll definitely be ordering from them again.
  7. that's awesome. Good luck restoring / fixing it up!
  8. I haven't had a ton of experience buying records online yet, but I did have a great experience with Mylene Sheath.
  9. I just got my 2xLP copy of Tertia in the mail last week. Can't wait to give it a spin.
  10. It's a dirty static, a bit similar to bad radio reception. I can definitely hear and recognize the music, but there's a persistent dirty static on top of it. Here's a different DL link that might work - http://rapidshare.com/files/316869079/Memo.m4a.html When I first started up the turntable, there was a persistent buzz/hum that seemed to disappear when I hooked up the grounding wire to the grounding "socket" on the back of the receiver, but I suppose it's certainly possible that this is a grounding problem as well. I'll definitely look out for a good audio store here in NYC. I'm sure there are plenty that should be able to help me out I totally recognize the difficulty in assessing this kind of problem over the web, but thanks to everyone for their thoughts so far!
  11. Here's a link to download an m4a file of what I'm hearing. Sorry about the download, I can't figure out how to put it up somewhere for streaming. http://uploadingit.com/d/G1NITKGKUAFBLMZ2 Here's a Rapidshare link if that's your thing - http://rapidshare.com/files/316869079/Memo.m4a.html
  12. Thanks! I'll check that out to see if it makes a difference. The turntable is hooked up to a pretty standard Technics SA-EX140 A/V receiver that's maybe 6 or 7 years old via RCA cables, with some Klipsch bookshelf speakers. Right now, the turntable is the only thing that's hooked up to the receiver.
  13. Hi everyone, I must first apologize if this post is in the wrong spot, or if this question has already been answered before. I'm still new here (and to vinyl as well) and am trying to learn the ropes. I'm guessing this is a dumb question for a lot of people, but please bear with me. I'll happily delete the thread if necessary. While at my parent's place over thanksgiving, I dug out my dad's old Dual 506 Belt Drive turntable, and after hooking it up, it sounded great. However, after having the turntable shipped to NYC via UPS, I'm getting a lot of "static" through the speakers over the music (I attached a voice memo from my iPhone). I can hear the music, but it is buried underneath the static. The turntable seemed to have been shipped with plenty of protection, and there doesn't seem to be any obvious damage, but given the fact that all the equipment is the same, I can't help but think that something must have happened while it was shipped. Could this be a case where some wiring got dislodged, or the cartridge / stylus got damaged? The turntable has been sitting in a closet for probably 15 years, so I'm sure getting a new cartridge wouldn't be a bad idea. Another possibility is the environment difference. In my cramped NY apartment, the turntable is in very close proximity to my A/V receiver, PS3, xbox 360, digital cable box, and TV. Maybe interference is the issue? P.S. - maybe this is a related issue, but I'm also getting quite a bit of static when I try listening to FM radio through the receiver tuner. Only when I lightly touch the back of the unit does the static go away (grounding the unit?). However, touching the back does nothing to help turntable static. This could just be crappy radio reception.
  14. I got my turntable and stereo in the mail that were shipped from my parents house. I can finally start listening to my records now!
  15. yeah i'm trying really hard not to go balls to the wall but i jump into everything headfirst. just the experience of listening to my favorites on vinyl is enough to put me under a bridge in 6 months Haha, I feel ya there! In the past 2 weeks, I've bought more music that I ever would have thought was rational. Not a bad thing, mind you.
  16. I'm in the same position as you. Just getting into vinyl, it'd be really easy for me to all of a sudden drop a ton of cash on records that I already own in some form or another (digital / CD), so I'm having to find some restraint.
  17. Yep, it's out on vinyl. Here's a link (note that it comes with the documentary DVD). http://interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=172700&
  18. Ordered The Jealous Sound - Kill Them With Kindness 2xLP from VC yesterday. Love this album.
  19. I think I was looking for a general vinyl message board, and stumbled upon VC. I've been lurking for a few weeks, and am slowly dipping my feet into the whole vinyl thing. I'm still a "beginner" by far, but am learning a ton and having a great time.
  20. In the past 2 days: Caspian - Tertia 2xLP on Opaque Maroon Over It / Punchline 7" Split on Red
