  1. Soft Bulletin is way OOP and was released for the first time on vinyl in 2002. It sold out in weeks. Typically gets around $180 on ebay. Soft Bulletin vinyl coincided with Yoshimis release on black. The Yoshimi original is a US press on black vinyl. Color was an import (reissue) and I think you can still get a copy for import prices on ebay, or online.
  2. totally agree. agreed... I bet this sells out 100 copies in a day now that it's going for $30+. It'll be a $100 record someday. And yes, it is a very good album. Just an older, more mature Skiba, going back to his 80's upbringing and influences and isn't in his early 20's like at the beginning of Alkaline Trio. Therefore, today's generation will fight over this records in a bunch of years.
  3. 2nd this... Can anyone tell me what the 7th and 8th versions of this are and if they are available? I thought it was: 4 colors, from Asian Man 1 VC exclusive 1 Bloodpact Exclusive
  4. Vinyl has become insanely popular already, or shall I say trendy now. Compare it to the early 2000's it's unreal. As it becomes more popular (and mass outlets - Amazon, Best Buy, etc.) start carrying it and bigger labels get more interested in pressing and promoting bands, the pressing #'s will skyrocket. Also with deeper pockets the big labels will keep vinyl from going OOP for as long as they can sell it. In turn, increasing popularity while realistically driving down price of more modern music. Making the ebay game less insane and the possibility for OOP vinyl to come in and out of print on a regular basis. We're already seeing plenty of this where al album seems to go OOP, everyone rushes to distros and ebay to pay an inflated price, then the label does another press identical to the original press. I guess there is good and bad if this continues to happen, but I wouldn't be shocked by it as it continues.
  5. Amazing this hasn't leaked. Can't believe a release of this magnitude is still being held so closely.
  6. never had any problem with straight-up isopropyl alcohol. just put it on a cotton rag/old tshirt and don't touch the paper label. no warps and very fast drying.
  7. Completely agree with some of the earlier posts. This super limited vinyl has become so out of control, especially in represses in the teens. Albums should just come out on black, or any other color for a first press. Then do EQUAL numbers of any colored represses. Sure it takes away some of the collectability but it also assures that collectors don't have to pay $100's to get the 19 press or whatever limited to 22. Also, it will take away flippers and get right back to the music, and the collector (who won't need to spend sick money to get a 19th press). Labels can do what they want, but it's up to the consumers to determine when too much IS to much. Goes back to my completeist argument and some of the stuff discussed last week in the TP thread. People will realize in a few years that having the 19th press of this album won't be worth the 100's you may pay for it now. Rather, the debut of some other album of a band that hits it big, probably pressed on black by a/their small label, will be highly sought after. Clearly my opinions of course, and yes, do as you please with your money, but I don't get it. In many ways, continuing these small limited pressings is what many are asking for, but then people seem to get cold feet when it appears that this album will have 100 presses. Music first.
  8. I don't see how selling something on ebay is contrary to punk ethics. I feel like I am more in line with D.I.Y. ethics now than I ever have been. If you are implying that it isn't punk rock to make a profit, we will have to agree to disagree. Like someone else has mentioned, we have sold test pressings for reasonable prices on our store in the past and will do so again in the future. Doing this as well as giving away copies in contests, I am trying to be as fair as possible by offering more than one way to get something so extremely limited. Virgil, I understand your points, and respect what you are doing. If I got into all my views on collecting, color vinyl, TPs, and the state of music today it wouldn't fall within this thread. These were more just conversational thoughts than an attack. I think it's your business is great, and want to see you turn great profits and continue to support music, bands and vinyl. I just had some thoughts about TPs and the state of collectors today. Also... see the Ebay Craziness Thread. People can do what they want with their money, hence capitalism. However, the supply and demand of super limited vinyl at times takes some collectors interest away from music and has them focus more on turning a profit. Again, this is probably for another thread, at another time.
  9. another thought (sorry, i appear to have an overabundance of thinking tonight) if the main idea is for completists to get the missing pieces, perhaps it's as easy as posting, or sending in, a pic of the complete collection. this would be a good way to get the TP's in the hands of the "right" people who won't flip them. again, not making a bidding war of a few completists drive to price to some absurd price. in the end, i feel like there should still be some old punk ethos alive, even if the music is changing.
  10. also, i realize there is no easy way to distribute test presses so i understand the rationale. just wonder how many people are really that thrilled to get one of these test presses when they see it, and realize they spent $200 on it. i do and don't understand completists. i have complete collections of many bands, minus test pressings. i guess i just don't completely understand the concept for completism (if that's a word) in this sense. i've seen some independent labels make huge profit this way - right or wrong. in this case, i just think VC has a lot of power right now, and will for a long time. keeping the direction of vinyl, and more specifically music, focused on the art of what's on the wax is most important to me.
  11. regarding the heavens thing i was just talking about the art for sale, and price that needs to be paid. people were upset about $16 for that release, though it was limited to 1000 - and will be a serious collectors item in months, regardless of cover.
  12. the test pressings I get for free are given away in contests to customers of vc. So are 1 of each of our test pressings in contests. We can argue all day which would be the best method for selling a test pressing but really there isn't a perfect way to do it that will please everyone. When you press something out of an edition of only 10 copies not everyone is going to get one. And if I took your suggestion of offering a moderate price, there is just as likely of a chance that someone will turn around and sell it on Ebay. Why not have the ebay seller be me? Proceeds will only go to press other records. thanks for your suggestion none the less. I certainly understand the issue with people flipping it on ebay. the method i mentioned just seems to give people who spend a lot of time on your site to get one, for a fair price. i understand if people are going to profit off records you get for free, it should be you and perhaps not someone else. i just have to see kids, and others, spend serious money on some of these test pressings when it really takes sight off the music and realistically won't maintain the value spent. i guess i'm old skool that way, probably having been a vinyl junkie since before anyone considered a test pressing was the value they are today. i guess times have changed. I agree we can argue this, and i don't want this thread to get out of control. However Virgil, you are developing a huge following and have an opportunity to affect music, vinyl and collecting. i just wanted to put it out there.
  13. how is this not getting a lot of attention?
  14. this whole thing is a little absurd. goes back to the heavens discussion about white sleeves, etc, etc. you get the same music with no art, hum... i think these should be listed on the VC site for a very moderate price. one per customer until they are gone. Virgil, doesn't VC get these free for buying many records and having connections. i like the contests better, but if the cross-argument is to make sure people who really want them can get them, is this really the way music needs to keep going. $100's for test presses of bands people will never hear about again after next year? just a thought.
  15. is the you fail me a silk screen? probably not for that price...
  16. matt has always been into the dark side, but mixed with 80's pop/synth/goth. he and derek joined the church of satan b/c derek's parents are members (if my memory serves right). i don't think they take it seriously, it was more curiosity and they are pretty open about it being more of a novelty. dan isn't involved as far as i know.
  17. Lightning Dust - s/t Christian Death - Ashes Bon Iver - For Emma Forever Ago
  18. I was just thinking about subject too. Question to me is, flipping something that you have no intentions of listening to, probably don't like, or will probably never like. I don't think there is anything "wrong" with any of this, but I find it annoying when people buy records from bands they don't care for just to do this. Again, to each their own, but at least try to think about the music first - which I think many don't. I typically buy two of everything I love, or think I'll love to have a play copy and a store copy. Sometimes I'll part with one if there is something compelling.
  19. Why is the guy a dick, because he ran out of records? Seriously, if you want to see a dick move, search for Triple Crown Records on this board. Don't insult other people because you're disappointed. V, I had you in mind when I tried to get 2. Shitty that didn't work out. Don't you owe me money anyway? haha. SOMEONE SELL VEDANT YOUR EXTRA. I don't know "Jason" personally but it sounds like many of you do, seeing all the references to his name. Or perhaps he's a penpal, neighbor, online video game competitor or however you know him. Regardless, I don't know him, and he may very well not be a "dick". In my book, anyone who puts a buyer and themselves through this crap - changing limits from two to one (make your decision and stick to it), not getting an accurate count on his e-commerce-able site, selling what he doesn't have, probably not selling them in the order they were placed, taking a month to figure it out, etc) - is a little bit of an idiot, and perhaps a dick too. I'm not disappointed about not getting the album, more sick of hearing and thinking about it. Yes, I'm glad I got $50 back but that was never a concern. No offense if I insulted someones friend.
  20. go to aural exploits, they have it. i'm sure this will go OOP soon as most side projects like this do.
