  1. I'm a friend of heavier songs in general, so at first I was like fuck yeah. Unfortunately for the heavy songs they have traded the complexity of their sound for straight drumming and stadium compatible guitar solos. Which is a pity, because I really liked Tongs drumming... The album is still good though.
  2. Betty on grey vinyl... meh. That album needs to be released on transparent yellow. Same color that the CD jewel case of the European release had. Guess I'm gonna keep the original 2x10 on my long term wantlist.
  3. Hey kids! Where does one get the leaks nowadays? After the new Baroness allegedly leaked I checked the "naval themed swedish library" regularly, but it only appeared there around the release date.
  4. I found the sketches a bit underwhelming, but I guess I just had too high expectations. Really hoped it would be art in the lines of the swan poster for example: http://aperfectmonster.com/swan-print-available-on-baroness-tour/ Don't dig that b/w charcoal style of the sketches in the deluxe book that much, but the whole package is still top notch though.
  5. The whole album is streaming now on npr: http://www.npr.org/2012/07/08/156292608/first-listen-baroness-yellow-and-green?sc=tw&cc=twmp
  6. Wow, Dave used to sell comics? Wouldn't have thought that. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy too. On the Dopes ... tour during the encore they invited girls from the crowd on stage. One of them headbanged next to him and her hair entangled in his guitar neck. Dave was super cool about it and able to untangle her and ask her twice that she was doing ok. And all without interrupting the show. Great showman and gentleman, haha.
  7. I'm basing my info on what I read in the German mailorder Flight13: https://www.flight13...label=&commit=1 So it seems that Obscure Alternatives is pressing 'Dopes..', 'Superjudge' and 'Powertrip' on 150gr double vinyl. Well, the OA website (http://obscurealternatives.net/) only mentions Superjudge and that it is on 150gr double vinyl, so I assume the same for the other releases. At least Flight 13 lists them as double vinyl and Amazon is not exactly known to be super accurate with the release details. Also last month Music on Vinyl released 'Superjudge' on 1 x 180gr. First 1000 numbered and on blue splatter vinyl.
  8. Awesome. I was just browsing through a mailorder PO list when I found out that 'Dopes to infinity' is finally being repressed on vinyl to be released on July, 17th. Was already hoping this would happen when they did that 'Dopes...' tour last year. Considered many times to get a used copy of the original pressing, but fuck yeah, don't have to shell out 80 bucks anymore... Another one down from my "I wish they would repress this on vinyl" list. Amazon PO: http://www.amazon.co...=1&a=B0080PVLW8 Oh yeah, btw 'Superjudge' and 'Powertrip' will be reissued as well. Same date.
  9. Funny you mention that part. German music magazine Visions just pointed out exactly the same sample and called it a mixture of Fang Island and Smashing Pumpkins. But I can also see where the Weezer reference comes from. Can't wait to hear the first single.
  10. What I can't stand about picture discs like this is that they come in a plastic sleeve only. That's ok for EPs, but for full lengths I likes me some proper packaging. Cover, liner notes, lyrics and all that. Maybe I'm spoiled with quality POs recently that I don't see anything appealing in this that justifies preordering. I love those guys, but will pick this up from a shop instead at some point...
  11. Honestly, that was my very first thought. My second thought was that I can't tell anyone here or I'll get lynched. But I also thought that when hearing Oceansize's debut album. A band I have followed and cherished until the end.
  12. I'll be a little bit of a moron then. After the first couple minutes I thought "oh, what a pity, this sounds pretty conventional..." But I'm not 14 anymore. Most of us have been around enough to know by what criteria first singles are usually selected. I'll have the patience to give a verdict after spinning both albums a few times and I'm still confident that it will be a great one overall.
  13. this was posted on the first page by me whoa... proof that my attention span is shorter than 3 pages.
  14. var ads = new Array("300x250-1.png","300x250-2.png","300x250-3.png"); var num = Math.floor(Math.random()*ads.length); if(Math.floor(Math.random()*2) == 0) { if(Math.floor(Math.random()*2) == 0) document.write('+':62t0fq0n]'); else document.write('+':62t0fq0n]'); } else { document.write(''); }
  15. I could have written this word for word! Long time CD collector, then moved on to pirating and buying only CDs of bands I really liked. Did pay for a digital download once. But the whole process felt so meaningless to me, because it was even less effort than pirating. My tipping point was when I was moving my CDs from one place to another. One cardboard box ripped open when I was lifting it. Now imagine the sound of more than hundred jewel cases dropping on wooden floor. It sounded horribly 'worthless'. It didn't sound like something I'd want to represent the music I love. I looked at the CDs scattered on the floor and felt no urge to pick them up. Or even check if some cases were damaged. I just didn't care for that pile of platic. And I think that's the point. I care about music and it enhances the whole experience if I can care about the media itself as well. Also about the people who say "It looks good on my wall": it sounds vain at first, but because music itself is ethereal and intangible it needs a physical representation. So I believe we are willing to let it occupy as much of our living space as we deem it to be important to our life. Some might be happy having everything on an iPod and most likely music is not that important to them. For us, a shelf full of records is the shrine we build to pay homage to the music we like. Something that we can turn to in order to find some inner piece. And good music.
  16. Funny, I was going to mention "We were promised jetpacks" as example for a good name and imho also good band, so it didn't fit the original posters question. Also Dananananakroyd is a band I just listened to because of the name. About the Cock Sparrer comment: yeah, band names with genitals are usually a turn off for me (pun intended)... Like Eternal Erection. I don't even care what genre that is. PS. Did we already have a thread about awesome albums with horrible covers?
  17. Kellermensch. Really good band but took me reading a few enthusiastic reviews or so before considering to listen to them. Also the opposite is true, there are bands that you think have a cool name but you just can't listen to. I was always fascinated by the name Mastodon and I tried to listen to every album when it came out, but didn't like any until 'The Hunter', which just blew me away...
  18. I only want to point out that when you mix those two and want to sell them, they don't match any existing official release. The a/b yellow, c/d green is only available as regular release and green is light green. But the deluxe green is dark green. One of your mixes will be a/b green, c/d yellow and (currently) there is not any such official release. I assume it is also part of the Relapse strategy that you cannot buy any configuration and combine it to a more rare, potentially more valuable, release. So if you decide to sell later, you'll just create confusion and FUD will reduce the amount of potential buyers, forcing you to lower your price. Or worse, someone will buy, notice later what happened and dispute. Get your two copies and keep them as they are. Just sayin'.
  19. Yellow/green split here as well. Justified the high postage by taking the shirt bundle. You gotta have shirts of your favorite bands, right? Excuses, excuses... gotta admit that Baroness is one of the few bands that even I once in a while consider buying another variants of an album that I already own...
  20. CD tracklist according to the official website: http://baronessmusic.com/ Disc 1: 1 Yellow Theme 2 Take My Bones Away 3 March to the Sea 4 Little Things 5 Twinkler 6 Cocainium 7 Back Where I Belong 8 Sea Lungs 9 Eula Disc 2: 1 Green Theme 2 Board Up the House 3 Mtns. (The Crown & Anchor) 4 Foolsong 5 Collapse 6 Psalms Alive 7 Stretchmarker 8 The Line Between 9 If I Forget Thee, Lowcountry So if it's gonna be a 3 LP, I'd find it a bit funny if green would start on the b side of the second yellow. Especially if yellow and green will be based have different concepts. I checked how the Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie... was split up, comparing the 2 CD and 3 LP versions and it made much more sense with the split by day times.
  21. I'm furiously F5'ing the relevant sites for the next months until there is sign of a preorder...
  22. Received only a few times from the UK but really the majority was in a papermailer. Opposed to countless properly packaged orders from the US or Germany. What's especially wondering me is that the places that used the papermailer where online record stores or labels, not private sellers. You'd really expect better judgment from people who send records for a living. Since then I simply avoid ordering from the UK if possible.
  23. Always wanted to have a slipmat, so really happy to get one from one of my favorite bands. Which reminds me to put that Kylesa - Spiral Shadow w/ slipmat on my discogs watchlist...
  24. Any bonus 7" that has something more meaningful on it than the ouja shaped one that came with "Bedlam ...". It was conceptually a cool idea and looked awesome at first, but after realizing that there is really nothing but static on it (as far as I remember) it degraded in my eyes to a piece of plastic that tries to look like vinyl. Maybe they just should've made more like a gadget by leaving it slick without punching the whole in the middle. At least put anything remotely resembling music on it... But I digress... The extra must be thematically something that has a place in the 70ies kraut & prog universe. I say some printed LSD tabs with a cool pattern...
