    Agreed!

Got my Spotify variant Saturday and was able to spin it for the first time last night. Here are my thoughts:

    • "Edging" made a lot more sense within the context of the album, but it's still one of, if not my least fav song.
    • My pressing was super hot, and when turned up past -20dB, it SCREAMED. High five to whoever mixed/mastered. Though, did anyone else experience some weird loss of fidelity and bass during "You Don't Know What You've Got"?
    • Some of Travis' stylistic choices with his own drums is probably my biggest gripe. As a drummer, and one who idolized Travis growing up, it seems he decided to gloss over his signature sound quite a bit on this album. The parts themselves, for the majority of the record, are completely Barker-esque, but the production choices on the snare sound and some of the flange effects on fills really bothered me. It's not every song, but most seem so polished it sounds like programmed drums. This could also be the overuse of triggers/samples too. Idk it's probably a niche gripe, but it's one that, to me, was completely unnecessary given his track record.

The drum recording on this record is not great and way too loud in the mix. Especially the snare. Pleasantly surprised by the record overall though!

I'm interested to see how it goes. I've almost always received really good sounding records from VMP, while Mondo didn't have the best track record for that. So, I'm hoping that it'll be the good parts of Mondo (cool album art) with the good parts of VMP (pretty good sounding records). Unfortunately, both companies have always been pretty overpriced, so I expect that will continue.

This is so interesting to read because I’ve literally bought only 2 VMP releases in my life, and they were Mars Volta & Outkast. They both were not good.

I love when these discussions come up and everyone wants to chime in without doing the bare minimum research about vinyl and record production.

Records are made from PVC. It's naturally colorless.

To make black vinyl, carbon is added. In addition to the black coloration, carbon adds strength...because it's carbon.

Colored vinyl has added dyes to color it, but no carbon, so it is colorful, has impurities and does not get the added strength black gets from carbon.

Clear, being the base form of PVC is technically the purest, but can has two diasadvantages to black vinyl: no added strength from carbon, and it is harder to visually quality check due to the color.

To get a solidly white record a lot of dye has to be added to the PVC, making it often more impure and prone to defect.

Excuse my ignorance but is this not just theory? Like, what research did you do to get this information outside of some pressing plant FAQ pages or blog posts? I've never come across any detailed scientific research on this topic. Not that any of this really matters.

I'm falling in line with this way of thinking too. I remember some other jaded soul posting a response to a pre-order announcement with "get your fresh dishes here!" No kidding, almost every record ships with a warp or just completely dished.

So I've set up a few rules:

    • No 2xLPs that follow the 3 tracks / side model. It's not needed and inner grove quality issues are fixed with a good transfer / pressing / math.
    • Only get records I can envision playing more than once.
    • Say yes to new records of seminal releases in my history. See Deep Elm represses, etc.
    • Don't buy a record if I already own it.
    • No gimmick shit. Picture disks, glow in the dark, white vinyl, should be avoided at all cost. 180G  black pressings preferred.
    • If the pre-order is more than 6 months away, fuck that.

There is no proof of white vinyl being worse than other colors to my knowledge.

I'm in the band. It's now sold out. No re-press. I remember when this came out as well, I was stoked on the response.

I was into that Bobby & Bonnie track but I didn't know anyone else following you guys at the time, compared to other revered Drive-Thru bands. Not a shot at the band.

How much of that do you think they had to pay in licensing to the Marley's?  Any?

Hendrix’s family “still owns his musical catalogue (as well as the musician’s name and image rights) while Sony is the exclusive licensee of his music.”

The old bandmates’ heirs saw these new box set prices and thought, “wayt a bloody minnit.”

If by chance you were wanting the The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Are You Experienced? UHQR LP Box 200G 33RPM Clarity Vinyl from Analogue Productions, I picked one up here last week for $100, which is a decent deal for these. They are listed as having dents and dings, but the one I got has one tiny ding in the top edge of the box. Who cares! Quickly shipped and well packed.

Yo, “limited to 20,000 copies.” That’s wild.

    20,000 copies @ $139.99 a piece = $2,799,800

40 year old dude keeping tally of the teenage girls at a Blink show: Check. I'm not trying to start an argument with a delusional person who thinks young people aren't always gonna be the largest demographic at a Blink show though, nice try.

Literally not what I said and proof it bothered you I said it in the first place if you wanna turn it into hyperbole. Majority is anything >50% if you didn't realize. Obviously there are weird dudes pushing 50 still holding onto Blink 182, but you're not thinking rationally if you think it makes up even 10% of the fan base. And teenage girls are 13-25 fyi. Basically anything off limits 😂

    Twenty-five-…teen?
