  1. I can't speak for everyone here, but I think Reports From the Threshold of Death is my favorite release of theirs, currently.  I was very pleased with the direction they took on that album, and I'm expecting some pretty great things from this EP.  Holding out for that Prosthetic Records PO.

Nope. I like Reports, but Martyrdom of a Catastrophist is far superior. Especially when they play the songs live, fuckin' crazy good.

  2. I guess the "best" was the Indiegogo by Graveface Records which was essentially a way for you to pay ebay prices for records directly to the label. I bought more than I needed, but I viewed it as a purchase and not as a handout.

Every other crowd funding bullshit that I have supported has been either a pain in the ass or a bust. I'm just so goddamned tired of this digital begging. At least the guy trying to get change from you in front of the store is someone who really needs it, whether it's for food, booze, or dope. These Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaigns are usually the result of laziness or impatience.

I've pledged to strangers and friends in the past. Now, I am pretty much giving the finger to anyone who asks. I'd rather give the money to a homeless person.

  3. In some peoples minds, yes. But when I think of KISS I think of all era's. Obviously there is nothing like the original line up. But the line ups after might have been KISS at their best. The Elder line up might have been my favorite, minus that record. But Eric Carr is a better drummer than Peter Criss by a long shot and made that band a power machine.

I doubt anyone who grew up listening to the original KISS would feel that later incarnations of the band are truly KISS. It has nothing to do with technical proficiency, it's the original members and what they brought to the band creatively. Paul, Ace, Gene, and Peter will be the only KISS for most old people.

I do think it's great that kids are still even interested in the band.

  4. I have a ton of KISS.  They're not a typical go to in my collection but they pumped out a ton of great music, especially before they became a huge marketing ploy. That being said, I will definitely pick up Revenge and Psycho Circus.  I remember being in high school when Psycho Circus came out and it was a HUGE deal at the time.  Overall I think it's a pretty decent album that I'm excited to finally get.  I see Amazon has them as a PO which is great because they'll definitely be a lot less once other sellers start listing.

KISS has ALWAYS been a "huge marketing ploy". Ever since the 70's when they pushed all boundaries for merch. I had KISS posters on my walls and even ceiling, trading cards, shirts, dolls, etc... They had their own movie and even appeared on a Paul Lind Christmas special.

I think if you've listened to KISS but only listened to the 70's stuff and didnt like it, you should listen to Revenge. A completely different band. That album probably has the most balls out of any other release. The late 80's stuff is pretty awesome too (Hot In The Shade)

If you don't like 70's KISS, then you don't like KISS. That is KISS. WTF?

  5. Many bands I like came out with just ok albums this year.

Here is my top 10 list, not in any order:

    1. Hollow Sunshine- Held Above
    2. Pyres- Year Of Sleep
     3. Mammoth Grinder- Underworlds
    4. Set And Setting- Equanimity
     5. Restorations- LP2
    6. Black Clouds- Everything Is Not Going To Be Ok
    7. Fuzz- S/T
    8. Pearl Jam- Lightening Bolt
    9. The National- Trouble Will Find Me
    10. Chelsea Wolfe- Pain Is Beauty

  6. I remember when Mansions' "Dig Up The Dead" was around for a long time before selling out. Now people are falling over themselves to get a copy.  If you sleep on buying this record, history will repeat itself. This is strangely under the radar and yet an amazing record.

I'm getting out of the variant stupidness, but would probably buy represses of this if the color was cool or even 180 gram.

  7. Unless that's a white whale, you should sell that. I cannot believe how much they go for.

Definitely not selling it any time soon. I know it goes for big cash. I got it by placing an ad on craigslist back when it was only in SF. Went to the guys house and found the strangest collection of records: Cal Tjader, first pressing of Blue Train, Charles Manson, orginal sealed copies of Verbal Abuse's lp and 7 inch, and the OG Crue on Leathur. Bought them all for a few bucks each.

  8. I'm not that into Doom Loop. It's not a bad record, it just doesn't compare to Dig or even Best Friends. I bought all versions of Dig Up The Dead when it came out. I felt crazy at the time buying 4 copies of the same record. Sold one for near cost a few months ago and another for a hell of a lot more. Keeping my pink and white copies. It is by far their best record out of the three. I hope they repress it so more people can spin it.
