Can't wait to get the deluxe package and delve a little deeper in to the lyrics. A lot of mentions of my home state: "at the Idaho courts to affirm our divorce," "I'll come back to Idaho soon," "Venus of the Gem state," "threw a curse at the Boise sky." Anyone have an idea what the relevance to the band is?

  2. Looks dope. I'm gonna have to try an external preamp with my Marantz 1060 to see if such an upgrade would really be worthwhile for me. My buddy has a Bugle2 I'm gonna have to have him bring over for such a trial. Solid state I know, but just trying to get a feel for separates in general in my signal chain.

  3.

I think the vocals are a littttllleee to buried in the mix too.

    Yeaaaahhhh :-/

Honestly I prefer this type of mix to the alternative. Take Smashing Pumpkins for example, I think I would enjoy the output post-Machina alot more if the vocals were mixed similarly to the earlier material. It just sounds too poppy to me when there is too much emphasis on the vocals. I like when they are treated as any other instrument, with no one thing in the mix drawing my attention away from the others.

  4. Couldn't find anywhere that this has been discussed yet, but is this their first LP ever without a sequel song (Pt. Two)? I don't see an obviously-named song that fits the bill and I don't hear anything on the album that reminds me of something old either. Someone with a deeper mwY knowledge than mine prove me wrong because I loved the tradition and would be a little bummed if they stopped all of a sudden.

  5. The trick to Steam sales is to watch the stuff on the daily deals and flash sales. Those are guaranteed to be the lowest prices for the duration of the sale. I generally wait until the last day to get stuff unless I see it in those categories. They also usually do an encore of daily deals on the last day of the sale.

So far I've grabbed the Outlast Whistlblower DLC and Mirror's Edge for pennies. I also grabbed Duck Game (amazing) which probably won't see a special deal on top of its sale price since it's newly released.

The best part about these things is that for less than the cost of one retail console game you can pick up enough stuff to keep you busy at least until the next sale!

  6. I'm probably going to buy this instead and hear every song from the original 7 NES titles as it was intended to be heard: during gameplay.

Mega Man Legacy Collection brings enhanced 8-bit classics to new platforms

In  mere months you'll be able to play the original six Mega Man games in crisp 1080p and enhanced with modern bonuses. Mega Man Legacy Collection hits Xbox One, PS4 and PC digital storefronts this summer, with a digital Nintendo 3DS version following in the winter.

In addition to the original six games, you also get challenges, a huge of-the-era museum packed with visual history and a helpful database that informs AND tests you on your Mega Man prowess. And for those keeping track, the trailer jam is "Searing Scissors," part of OverClocked Remix's excellent "For Everlasting Peace" album.

Some notes about the additional modes:

Leaderboards, challenges, replays: Challenge Mode takes moments from each title and weaves them into a series of, well, challenges! So things like 'can you do these six areas strung together with one life bar' or 'try fighting all six Mega Man 1 bosses in a row.' And to keep the quest for the best time alive, the top performers in each Challenge will have their replay data uploaded and viewable to everyone! There will be many challenges to vex seasoned players AND help train newcomers in the ways of the Blue Bomber.

Database: Each Mega Man game will have a database that includes enemy lists. From here you can read details about certain enemies and hop directly to them for a practice session. For example, say you're tired of playing all the way to Quick Man just to lose over and over. With the database, you can hop directly to him and practice that buster run until you get it down to a science. Then it's off to the full game for the real deal!

Museum: MMLC will sport an exhaustive collection of sketches, art and other visual materials that help put you in that 1987~1992 time period. Part of this game's goal is the preservation of history, and the folks at Digital Eclipse are scanning items at absurdly high resolutions to make them as clean and clear as possible.

Speaking of Digital Eclipse, the team is bringing these 8-bit classics over via their new Eclipse Engine, which rebuilds the original games from their source elements. The result is a sharp, clean picture that proudly displays these iconic sprites in lovely 1080p, and presents the games as they existed in their original forms.

“Movies have the Criterion Collection, but there hasn’t been anything like that for games,” said Frank Cifaldi, Head of Restoration for Digital Eclipse. “We’re living in the golden age of a brand new form of artistic expression, and we’re not doing a very good job of making sure our games will be available five years from now, let alone fifty. The more we can do right now to take video game preservation seriously, the safer our history will be.”

For $14.99 you'll get six timeless classics, a huge museum of high-res images and challenges with their own leaderboards and replays.

We'll stream the title from E3 next week, and if you're attending SDCC this year, you'll be able to play it ahead of its release!

    Aw yiss.

  8. Super entertaining movie if you are a fan of the show. Not sure I could recommend it otherwise. Delightfully misogynistic (a lot of people hate on the series for that but it's always clearly been parody). Ari still knows how to tie a necktie correctly and is still the true star of the show. Turtle is way better as a fit millionaire, and I find it hilarious that he still drives the car. Drama's arc is the best he's had in the series. The only thing that was kind of disappointing was E's story. "Are E and Sloan gonna make it work? Are they gonna stay separated?" Pretty much the same cycle as when it was on TV. Really glad Billy shows up late in the movie. I wish that the Jane's Addiction theme song was played way louder. I wanted it to explode out the speakers during the title credits, but they kept the volume pretty tame. Overall though, Ellin and Co. did a pretty great job delivering on the promise.

    LLLLLLLOYYYYYYYYYYDDD

  9. Dunno why people hold off on listening to stuff before the LP release. An album is still just a collection of songs no matter how you look at it. Sure sometimes there's a flow or whatever, but hearing a song before release shouldn't taint that. New song is solid. Check it out. It's just music. Don't take it so seriously. Don't forget that it's supposed to be fun.

  10. Alright, I'm finally looking into getting something for pour over. Would you guys recommend a Chemex? Or is there another option that is better? Thanks!

Totally recommend a Chemex. I use mine mostly for multiple cup brewing and have the 6-8 cup model with the glass handle. I kind of don't like the look of Chemex brewers with the wood collar and they seem like they'd be more of a hassle to clean. Chemex makes a smaller model that's better suited to single servings. Hario also makes some kind of device for single cup pour over. That's not to say you can't make one serving in a large Chemex. I do it sometimes. Some things to think about.
