  1. Got a red "Seasons of the Abyss" - sound decent to my ears. Sounds mostly good, think there's a little inner groove distortion on this one though. My "Reign in Blood" is black and I haven't listened to it yet.
  2. I live in OKC, but I'm currently in Tulsa for the holidays - the WOMB Gallery (that Coyne owns in OKC) has all of the limited releases a friend of mine said the Stone Roses Tribute is the one that's $40 and the "Fuck You Frog" is $250. The Frog is the one that has the demo of the first demo on a blue 7" (it looks like a frog peeing in a pond). I'd probably bet the Stone Roses Tribute goes fast. I bought the King Crimson Tribute and I haven't seen any of those since then. EDIT: Looks like the Tame Impala split is also $40. Wow.
  3. You can find "To Bring You My Love" at some record stores for less than $20. I was surprised when I found it, and it has supposedly been in print for a good while. I'd recommend picking it up - my copy sounds pretty good.
  4. I got the red vinyl version, but it has the same chunk missing on the outer rim and what looks like a scratch or something going thru most of side 1. Also- $26 bucks and no download code? Anyone else have this problem?
  5. If any of you are curious about the Stereolab reissues on the 1972 label, I'd say avoid. I've got Transient Random Noise Bursts from the 1972 label, and it sounds kind of bad. DBK Works is another label they operate under. Their website is pretty terrible too: http://www.runtshop.com/labels.html
  6. I thought the Pulp "This is Hardcore" sounded like crap myself. Really weak sounding for the most part. The MBV ones are ok, but could be a lot better. I do like the two Breeders reissues, the Primal Scream "Screamadelica" and the Red House Painters "Songs from a Blue Guitar", though. I think those sound okay. This label is basically under the Runt group which comprises of Plain, 4 Men W/Beards, Water Records and I think they acquired Fire records or something (I could be wrong about that one). I've also got the Mazzy Star ones. They don't sound too bad, but they are pretty quiet and lacking, but I seem to remember one of mine has some surface noise, which kind of is a problem given that the music on those records isn't what you'd call loud. A friend of mine and I A/B'd his Rough Trade pressing of "So Tonight That I Might See" and the RT one is quite a bit better, but expensive. I believe these were ran by one guy with a beard from Italy. I don't believe most of these reissues are what one would call official, but they don't seem to be considered bootlegs either. Oddly enough, I've actually had better luck with the Plain Recordings stuff than the 4MWB stuff. While we're on the topic, does anyone know if 1972 Records fits into any of this or the origin of that label? I can't find anything on that one.
  7. Bought the colored pressings, I've always thought the Boxer sounds nice. The Alligator for the most part does too, but I feel like my copy has a small bit of inner groove distortion. The Boxer is a solid yellow and the Alligator, while trying to be green is more of a really neon looking green or yellow. The records themselves are really thick, at least 180gm as where I think the black presses aren't.
  8. From what I have heard, there is going to be a vinyl reissue of this and it may be a 3xLP set (seems like there are extras not on the 2xLP press). The current press of this still sells pretty solidly. I also think as far as it goes with the Sub Pop reissues, I was probably one of the only people wishing they had did the Red Red Meat one in a deluxe vinyl press. Originals can be found fairly affordable on that one. I've seen a lot of those Vasolines ones sitting in stores, however.
  9. I think I've only known of this as it's showed up on eBay a few times. I never bid on that because I thought it was a boot, though apparently it's legit. Someone also told me there was a vinyl press of Ultimate Alternative Wavers with a poster of the album art inside, though I've never seen this. I don't think this actually exists. I've wondered why Ancient Melodies has been OOP as it came out on Warner w/Up Records doing the LP pressing like the other two.
  10. Record stores in my area are getting copies of "Perfect From Now" on and "Keep it Like a Secret" back in stock. Somebody told me these were out of print for a short time. I managed to score an original press of Keep it Like a Secret for $10 at some place in Santa Barbara (this was after the reissues had came out), but saw a sealed Ancient Melodies somewhere else for like $70-80. I'd love to have "There's Nothing Wrong With Love" as well - it appears there is a press of this on yellow wax.
  11. I think dude at Waterloo was definitely in the wrong to bitch at your friend for getting in the row next to him. You're taking up the row you're looking at, not the two or four around you. Though to be fair, I might be pissed off if someone jumped in the row I was currently looking in, and pulled out something that I was really wanting, and I haven't gotten to. I'd be pissed off to a lesser extent if it was the row next to me that I haven't looked in, but whatever, it's fair game, maybe I should have gotten to the store 5 minutes earlier or something. It's usually not something I have to worry about because record stores aren't always the most crowded places at times. It's all etiquette, don't be a dick, etc. Also, there is a collector here in town (he's probably late 50's, early 60's) that seems to have a bad reputation. Everyone knows this guy, and he's regularly snatched records from people's hands. Word gets around, and also, some of the biggest assholes I've ran into in the course of record collecting are about this guy's age. Another guy attempts to make money by putting all the fairly decent classic rock albums in customer hold, listing them on eBay, and coming to the store to purchase them when they finally sell. Guy probably hits the record stores 3-5 times a week, and half of those places have figured out what he does, and he no longer gets hold privileges at one of those stores. It's always the same records too- Beatles, King Crimson, Rolling Stones, etc.
  12. Record City is huge, lot of selection, fairly good prices on used vinyl. Thirsty Moon is pretty tiny, but I picked up a copy of Mutations by Beck for $30, saw a white vinyl Crazy Rhythms by the Feelies for $15. It's mostly pretty weird. M-Theory is small, I picked up some good used finds there, and the guy that worked there was pretty cool. All of those are definitely worth going to. I basically walked to all three of these. Taang has some cool stuff (it's not far from Record City and Thirsty Moon), way overpriced, and went to a store called "Cow", and I didn't find much in there, though the guy working at M-Theory said he found an original press of one of the first four Scott Walker Records and it was pretty hit or miss. I should also mention "Cow" was a 30 minute bus ride from where I was staying, so it kind of felt like a waste of time. I feel like there may have been another store I went to.
  13. I'd probably guess they're doing this on 4xLP, as they expanded Pisces Iscariot from a single LP to a double. Though, the Pisces single LP actually doesn't sound all that bad, and the vinyl is a nice color.
  14. There was a defect in the pressing. They shipped about 200 of these out before they noticed. I was quick in catching mine, as I e-mailed them like maybe a day after I received it initially, which was maybe a day before street date. They told me to send it to them, I didn't, then they said hold onto it, which I did. I finally got my replacement copy yesterday. These are in the mail, I guess. Slightly different shade of blue on the vinyl, too.
  15. At the store where I sometimes work, we were shipped 3 of the Disturbed box set. We still had all 3 of them when I closed yesterday. Also, no one touched the Sinead O'Connor ones, the Freakwater LP, Cursive LP, The Trouble in Mind 7", the Numero Group LP, Fleetwood Mac S/T (someone did buy the 2x45 LP edition), Lou Reeds... several others, actually. We have like one big rack of all the leftover stuff. We got ripped on the Animal Collective, Sigur Ros, Bonnie Prince Billy (none), Gorillaz (none), and several others. I worked from 9:30 AM (we opened @ 11am), to 9:30 PM. The first 2-3 people in line were customers I had never once in my life ever seen (probably flippers- I'd like to think I can spot them a mile away, middle aged nervously thumbing thru a list or iPhone with dollar values on it). They kept looking in and staring. The line wrapped around the building and down the street. It was the craziest thing I had ever seen at a record store. One came back yesterday for the Flaming Lips, which we were shipped a ton of, and sold every one of.
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item20c4d67a8b&item=140741343883&nma=true&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&rt=nc&si=05AFhgUxBD2fojsTLp%2BRvMOZe9Y%3D&orig_cvip=true Those of you looking for the Liquid-filled Sixteen Salteens 12". Though, I'd guess there's a sucker born every minute.
  17. Word seems to be going around that a LP with a collaboration between the Flaming Lips and Bon Iver is going to come out RSD 2012.
  18. I went to a place called Wall of Sound. Small store, but some really cool stuff there. Half of the place is records, the other half is books. The guy working (had a long black beard) was really cool. I'd recommend Singles Going Steady. There was also a place called B-Side Music that I found on the way walking to Singles Going Steady. It has a drum kit in the window. If you go to Jive Time, check the Fremont Vintage Market. It's right across the street. There are tons of records in there- some are cheap, some are beat up, some are both. Their cheap records are Jive Time's overflow. There are also other vendors in there selling records. Didn't make it to Georgetown Records, Singles Going Steady in Queen Anne. I went to a Singles Going Steady, but the word was it was going out of business. There are also a few places in Pike's Place Market area as well. Porchlight, how did I miss you?
  19. I was wondering the sound quality on these. I have the old vinyl of both of these (and Pisces). The artwork looks kind of cool. I've heard the Pisces Iscariot may be released for RSD 2012. Also in 2012, Mellon Collie and Aeroplane Flies High- first time on vinyl. Wondering how that will be done? it'd be cool if they did a replica of the CD box set, except on 10" or 12". Still wonder what extras these will all have.
  20. Size Records is pretty great. The guy there, Jim (long hair, beard, glasses maybe) knows almost everything about music. Not to mention he told me a great story about a crackhead landlord when he used to run Music Dimensions. He's pretty cool. There are also a few new record stores in OKC. Guestroom opened it's 3rd location in Bricktown, on the Canal. Address is 25 S. Oklahoma Avenue Ste 1, I believe. In Oklahoma City (Bricktown is the entertainment district). It's a much smaller store. There is also Trolley Stop Record Shop on 18th & N. Classen. It's across from a Braums. Ton of records, really disorganized, but if you dig enough you'll find something kind of cool. Also mostly used stuff. Just opened. Alley Records is sort of across from Size. On Britton Road, on the other side of Western... in the Back Alley. Keeps some weird hours. Sometimes there are a few good things there. Mostly used stuff. There is also a place called Tubby's Tune Town. On 4001 N. Penn Avenue, in OKC. I went in there once... ton of used stuff, nothing too great. One of the few times I've been to a record store and walked out empty handed. I should also mention, I hit up Mad World Records in Denton. It looks like it'll be a cool store. A ton of CDs, some vinyl (but not a ton- Recycled Books still has more), but hopefully they'll get there. And Doc's Records & Vintage in Ft. Worth is moving to Camp Bowie Blvd, not sure of the location. Also- Anyone know about Rewound Sounds in Wichita? As in, is it still there? Or any other record stores in Wichita? I believe there is a place called "Play It Again Sounds" or something.
  21. If you're going to Oklahoma, definitely check out Guestroom Records and Size Records (they are already posted on this forum, I believe). There's a Guestroom in OKC and one in Norman. Also- Mad World Records 115 W Hickory Denton, TX 76201 (940) 591-3001 This must be really new, because I was in Denton in February and didn't see it. Recycled is pretty awesome, not a lot of new vinyl. Tons of books. Mad World Records is apparently carrying newer titles. I haven't checked it out yet.
  22. Ft. Worth, TX: Doc's Records & Vintage Place page 2111 Montgomery St Fort Worth, TX 76107 (817) 732-5455 I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was probably the best record store in North Texas. I walked out with about 200 dollars worth of stuff. Some of it can get a little pricey, though most of it is fairly reasonable in the 8-15 bucks range. Huge selection, and fairly well organized. Not a lot of new vinyl - mostly used. Has some turntables, t-shirts, and cds as well as other things. I'd recommend it. Denton, TX: Recycled Books 200 North Locust Street Denton, TX 76201 (940) 566-5688 Had a decent selection of vinyl there. A lot of older stuff, though I did score some new records there for a pretty reasonable price. California: Just Play Music 619 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101-3301 (805) 963-8677 ‎ The only place I did not go back to in SBA. Had a decent selection of stuff, though I'd say it was fairly overpriced compared to all the other places I went (Salzer's and Grady's Record Refuge -- both which are pretty decent). The inside looked like a Hot Topic. Took me a while to find parking as it was right on State Street. I don't know if I can recommend. Warbler Records 131 E De La Guerra St Santa Barbara, CA 93101 [email protected] 805.845.5862 Found several long out of print LP's there. Beck's Mellow Gold, Nick Cave's Murder Ballads, and several others. Had a pretty good selection of stuff, though he did mention he had just opened. Has a good selection of turntables from what I remember. Went there, in November last year? Buffalo Records 92 S. Laurel Street Ventura, CA 93001-2721 (805) 648-3345 Found some pretty good stuff here too (Lush's final album on clear wax, several others), kind of out of the way, and the place does have a fair share of run of the mill stuff, but there were some pretty good records in there. I think this was somewhere else, but as of last November, it's still there. Oklahoma City: Since you've included the 2 Guestrooms and Size Records already... Charlie's Jazz, Rhythm & Blues 5114 Classen Cir Oklahoma City, OK 73118-4417 (405) 843-6902 Mostly what it says. They have some rock records there. Also some stereo equipment, if you're into that stuff. Alley Records: 918 1/2 W. Britton Road Oklahoma City, OK 73114 A record store in the back alley of an art gallery. Keeps weird hours, only open Tues-Fri 11-6. I think he makes appointments though. I've found some decent stuff there fairly cheap, and some not so decent stuff there for a fairly expensive price. This guy just opened up this year. Supposedly, there's some more places opening up in OKC. Anyone have any recommended places for Seattle? Going there in a few weeks.
