  1. Suede, as mentioned earlier. (Might as well press 'Sci-Fi Lullabies' up on a 3xLP for the first time while they're at it.) Also, SFA would love lovely.
  2. Went out to grab dinner last night and stopped by Kim's because I hadn't been in a while. Walked out with the Sugarcubes "Birthday" (first issue) and "Coldsweat" 7"s for $4.99 each.
  3. UK shops have started to post listings for this. Average is £18.99 for the 3xCD and £79.99 for the vinyl, which will probably translate to around $30-40 and $85-110 for the domestic pressing I would guess. A bit more than I was hoping to spend, but if these are anything like recent 4AD CD box set reissues - This Mortal Coil, Colourbox, etc. - then it will be well worth the investment.
  4. Did anything ever come of that anniversary edition of 'Agaetis byrjun'? That's something I'd be all over, but I feel like they mentioned it once and never again.
  5. I posted my Besta back earlier in the thread - I prefer it because it has the back and, as you say, has more configuration options. When I bought it I went with a brand new color they were just rolling out - I forget what it was called, but it's like a cherry but not nearly as red - figuring it would be around for a while and I could upgrade as needed. Unfortunately since that one trip about five years ago, they never rolled out the rest of the collection and have stopped stocking even what they had. Stupid Ikea. I've started to spill over into an Expidet that I was using for random stuff in my old house, but I don't like it nearly as much.
  6. Unfortunately it's an album that wasn't sequenced with vinyl in mind - the initial LP release wasn't even for a number of years after the CD came out if I'm remembering correctly. In order to make it work, you have to make the sides really lopsided or go in and remix some of the fade ins and outs to make the side splits work.
  7. http://www.primalscream.net/ Pre-orders are up for the new Primal Scream album, 'More Light'. 2xLP, but there's also a 2xCD with six bonus tracks. (There is an option to order both for $49.50, which I guess isn't terrible for an import but also more than I'm willing to spend without hearing the rest first.) The single "2013" is fantastic and my favorite thing from them since "Miss Lucifer". I'm holding out hope for the rest of the album... ...but, again, no way I'm committing to a purchase without hearing more first.
  8. After one listen, this one is a little more laid back than 'The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night' but just as gorgeous. Definitely recommended if you're a fan.
  9. http://www.scdistribution.com/besnardlakes/ $24.99 for the CD & LP & bonus 12" & poster & immediate download of the album ahead of its April 2 street date. *Whew*! And that's how you do a pre-order and deluxe bundle, folks.
  10. Visited the Princeton Record Exchange yesterday and traded in $110 worth of DVDs/Blu Rays. Wasn't feeling terribly inspired by the selection, but found a few goodies: Lene Lovich - New Toy EP - US 12" Oingo Boingo - Only A Lad - US LP Michael Nesmith and the First National Band - Nevada Fighter - US LP Bangles - Everything - US LP Squeeze - UK Squeeze - CA LP on red vinyl Genesis - Tonight, Tonight, Tonight (Remix Long Version) - US 12" Ivy - Lately - US 10" I had a few other things that I was going to get, but I greatly underestimated how much I had brought to trade in so put them back. On the bright side, I have $87 in credit for next trip.
  11. My copy arrived yesterday. First LP was slightly warped and the top right corner of the sleeve slightly crunched, but nothing terrible so I'm content with that. The color is fantastic and fits perfectly with the album art theme, so well played on that. Sound wise, it's been a while since I've listened to the album but it sounds fine to me - not a significant upgrade from the CD from what I remember, but an enjoyable listening experience. However, and this is no one's fault, the side splits kill the fun for me. "Tourniquet" is supposed to seamlessly flow into "Little Horn" and "Angel With The Scabbed Wings" is supposed to be born out of the maelstrom at the end of "Mister Superstar", but with the side splits as they are - a necessity due to time constraints on each side, I get it - the overall effect of the album is ruined for me. Also, not having a little bit of editing done to make the ends/beginnings of each side a little less jarring - you can hear the end of "Tourniquet" at the beginning of "Little Horn", for example - is even more detrimental for me. (I don't have any other pressings of this one so maybe it's always been like that, but see something like 'The Downward Spiral' where the end of "Eraser" is extended a bit and the beginning of "Reptile" is smoothed out to make the lack of transition between the two less obvious. Does that make sense?) I'm glad to have it and as a physical artifact it's a great representation of the album. However as a listening experience, it falls short for me and the CD will remain my go to whenever I feel the need to listen to this again. That said, bring on "Portrait of an American Family" on a 2xLP and I am first in line.
  12. Right? I was hoping to have it before going to see them on Thursday, but that's looking unlikely.
  13. I agree. "If I Could Talk I'd Tell You" is one of my favorite songs.
  14. I am normally not into these super fetishy vinyl sets. However, it's 'Last Splash' for heaven's sake and I will be ALL over this, I don't care how much it costs. I can't believe they managed to exceed my expectations at what the 'LSXX' set would contain. This somehow keeps getting better and better.
  15. In for both, ended up not being able to get either. Oh well, I didn't *really* need to spend the money on these.
  16. I would be crazy excited if that showed up on my doorstep. I guess I'm old too, but if I get to listen to 'Simpatico!' in my old age I'm fine with that.
  17. ...and I may have just bought a US copy of Primal Scream's 'XTRMNTR' 2xLP for $20 while out grocery shopping. Well, not at the grocery store, but you get the idea. OK, NOW it's time to take a break.
  18. Fair enough. Last time out I found a copy of the 2xCD 'Ferment' just sitting there for $9.99.
  19. Back from a trip to LA with a fistful of dollars for record spending. Didn't have the good Catherine Wheel luck I usually have when I visit, though my Beautiful South luck continued and I came home plenty happy. LP/12": The B-52's - Summer of Love US 12" Bananarama - I Heard A Rumor US 12" Bangles - Walking Down Your Street US 12" The Chameleons UK - Strange Times with bonus EP US 2xLP Depeche Mode - Master and Servant (US Black & Blue Mix) US 12" Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax (US Mix) UK 12" Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes (Annihilation) UK 12" KMFDM - Godlike / Friede EU 12" Information Society - Information Society US LP Madonna - Burning Up US 12" Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson - Say Say Say US 12" Pointer Sisters - Baby Come And Get It US 12" Primal Scream - Swastika Eyes (Chemical Brothers Remix) single sided UK 12" promo Prince - Let's Work US 12" Prince and the Revolution - Paisley Park UK 12" Prince - The Black Album (1994 Warners issue) EU LP Sugababes - Hole In The Head US 12" The Sugarcubes - Regina (Propeller Mix) UK 12" 7": The Beautiful South - I'll Sail This Ship Alone UK 7" The Beautiful South - A Little Time UK 7" The Beautiful South - My Book UK 7" CD: The Beautiful South - Everybody's Talkin' UK CD1 The Beautiful South - Miaow (original sleeve) UK CD The Beautiful South - Dream A Little Dream FR CDS The Beautiful South - Let Go With The Flow UK CD2 The Kelley Deal 6000 - Go To The Sugar Altar AU CD Elastica - Waking Up UK CDS James - Ring The Bells UK CDS James - Just Like Fred Astaire UK CD2 KMFDM - Naive (1991 issue) US CD Michael Nesmith and the First National Band - Loose Salute US CD Suede - Animal Nitrate UK CDS Throwing Muses - Bright Yellow Gun UK CDS And I got home to find the Andre Cymone 'AC' 2xCD reissue and Geneva 'No One Speaks' JP CDS awaiting me in the mail. Not bad for a few days work. Now it's time to rest.
  20. Our brewer started to shit the bed about six months ago and Todd talked me into getting a Keurig to replace it. (He has one as his new office at work and loves it.) It's super convenient when I'm up at 2:45 for a 4AM shift and can't be bothered making a proper pot of coffee AND - and someone else has suggested earlier in the thread - I can use it just for hot water for my French press on mornings I don't have to work. So win/win. That said, the cups are kind of expensive and aren't available in as wide a variety of blends as I would like, but between proper cups, the reusable cup and the good ol' press, it meets all of our coffee needs. (Between the two of us we spent 13 collectively working for Starbucks, so there is a big coffee need in the house.)
  21. We got a whopping 4 inches in Jersey City and people are panicking like it's the end of the world. I'm a little disappointed, actually. Coming from Western NY, I couldn't figure out what the big deal was. (There was no prep work for the snow, that's what the big deal was.) Seeing pictures from elsewhere, I realize we dodged a bullet, and I was more than happy to get out of work 5 hours early last night.
  22. Yes. That didn't stop me from dropping $55 at Other Music today. I went for the Joy Formidable LP but ended up with a good chunk of used stuff. Someone had traded in a collection of 12"s, and then someone else had traded in a collection of 80's Wax Trax!-y stuff that I couldn't resist: The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law LP Duran Duran - I don't want your love - UK etched 12" (2.99!) Duran Duran - Notorious (Latin Rascals Remix) - US 12" Revolting Cocks - Big Sexy Land - US LP Revolting Cocks - You Goddamned Son Of A Bitch - US 2xLP Revolting Cocks - Beers, Steers & Queers (Remixes) - US 12" There were also other RevCo 12"s (which I already had), some great 4AD stuff, the first two Lard LPs (which were kind of pricey at $19.99 each), a slew of UK Siouxsie and the Banshees LPs, etc, all in amazing condition. But I had to draw the line somewhere. That said, if you're in the area, it's worth checking out.
  23. Picked up a copy at Other Music this afternoon. The artwork is even more stunning full sized. I will say, though, that I'm a little disappointed in how it sounds. I thought the stream sounded a bit muffled but assumed that was because it was a low bit-rate stream. However, the LP sounds the same. It just doesn't breathe, for lack of a better term, like I want it to. It's loud but it feels like it should be more full. Does that make sense?
  24. I've been reading raves about this in many places so decided to Spotify it up this morning and see what it's all about. So far it sounds like a collection of Dragonette outtakes - they guested on the second Dragonette album if I'm remembering correctly so it's not a total stretch - which certainly isn't a bad thing, but I'm also not entirely sure I'd put this on again over a proper Dragonette album. So basically, pleasant surprise but not completely won over.
  25. I was skeptical when they wouldn't confirm what the bonus track was and had a hunch it was going to be either "Wolf's Law" or "Tempo (Strong - Weak - Weak)". Kind of lame on their part to hide it like that. (Though I guess this means "Wolf's Law" won't be hidden on the standard LP, then?) Anyone have the standard LP yet? Amazon has jacked the price to $27.99 and says it will take 1-2 extra days to process, which suggests to me they're just selling an import, and no one else seems to have stock on the standard US LP yet.
