  1. First record I ever got was AFI's "Very Proud of Ya" the day it came out. I went to the local record store to buy an AFI shirt, and they use to put old dollar bin type records inside the T-shirts so that they could go into a cabinet where you could flip through them like records, ingenius if you ask me. But, I grabbed a shirt and a guy behind the counter told me to grab the one behind it because they decided to put a brand new copy of the AFI record in that T-shirt, so I bought that one. I went home and stared at the record for quite some time trying to figure out how to play it. That weekend I bought this sweet turntable/8-track combo unit from a garage sale to play records on.
  2. They are also limited to 70 copies, hand numbered... someone from Rev posted this: The last 70 copies of the Dag Nasty "Minority Of One" LP with a limited edition cover are being sold through mailorder only on RevHQ.com and are now available for pre-order. Check it out here:
  3. Thanks, this looks awesome!! I couldn't get it to work either, but the new upload works great.
  4. Oh man, I forgot about how hot it got in there. They had this old crappy swamp cooler that really didn't work, I think it just blew mold around. I would spend summer nights in there sweating, swatting flys, and other horrible things. I remember when some old punk guy (He played in that band THE DEFEX, late 1970's) brought in his punk 7" collection. Imagine every KBD record, all of the Misfits and Dischord, etc... The manager wouldn't let me buy them, since they were going to put them on eBay. Total letdown.
  5. Along with Virgil, I once worked at Wax Trax in Boulder. IT was by far the best record store in Boulder. The landlord kept raising the rent, while he never fixed the heater or A/C. Plus, they went from making a few thousand a day, down to $500!! They couldn't stay in business, so they closed down. It was a sad day indeed. Now, the only decent place for vinyl is Barts on Pearl Street (near the Old Chicago). I have no reason to go to Boulder, with the exception of a few burrito/sub shops.
  6. Yeah, one of my tables allows me to adjust the weight on the tone arm, but it had no effect. Just cause you can adjust your tonearm doesn't mean it's set up correctly. Being off by 1-2 grams can cause your needle to skip like crazy. Go buy a tonearm/cartridge scale (about $20) to dial in the exact weight specified by the cartridge. It is the best $20 you will spend.
  7. I could have bought one in the mid 90's for about $400... if I only had a time machine. I've contemplated buying one over the years, but I'm officially priced out. If I had the cash, I would totally buy one. Get it insured!
  8. I would just put up a wall bracket, and patch the whole before you move. They'll never know.
  9. Excel is the way to go. You can have a column with "approximate value" that you can enter in what it's worth, and then total it up to get an approximate average of how much insurance you'll need if you want to insure them.
  10. Did the original tapes also have the reduced low end, or was that done after the originals? (hoping after the originals) No matter the case, I will be all over these as well! Hetfield and Ulrich were pissed about Cliff Burton dying, so they took it out on Jason Newsted, or so to say, his bass track. Go back and listen to ANY version of ...Justice for all, and you'll notice that there is NO bass. They only bass on that album is from the drums, and when the guitars palm mute. It's pretty hard to listen to what you realize there is no bass on the record. Hopefully they remix the bass back into the record.
  11. Youth of Today Insted 97a Descendents and Depeche Mode The Smiths
  12. I could have purchased a Judge "chung king can suck it" for about $200 in 1996. At the time, I thought that was absolutely crazy, but they sell for about $2000 now. Bummer.
  13. I have about 1300 LP's and 1000 7"s. I have given away more than that over the years, since like someone else said, "Quality of Quantity". If I haven't listened to it in a few years, I usually give it away to someone that really wants it.
  14. Bad Brains - 'pay to cum' 1st press w/ the sleeve. It took me 14 years to find one, and I'll doubt I would ever get another one at a non-ebay price.
  15. I have never heard this argument before. The thicker the vinyl, the deeper they can cut the grooves, the better the sound.
  16. I have that one on the way I think so hopefully that can be the one I'll use. Its not a skip, its a constant loop so you would definitely notice it. I dont know much about records but just wondering if type/quality of needle could be responsible for inconsistent reports about the skip/loop? Is it possible that a thicker needle could avoid the loop and a thin one not? If you're needle is too heavy, it will skip. Trust me. I had my needle accidentally set to like 4 grams on my shitty turntable, and I blamed it on the needle. I finally bought a tonearm scale, and realized I was at 4 grams when I should have been at 1.95. I readjusted the tonearm, and it hasn't skipped once in the last 2 years.
  17. Buying records for the sole purpose of reselling them on eBay is a dick move. I think 99% of people will agree to this.
  18. I didn't think anyone liked this album. They kind of lost me after Smash, but they were totally awesome during the Ignition era.
  19. I wasn't attacking you. I was merely stating that Frontier keeps pressing on CV, and that their CV isn't rare. End of point.
  20. First, you post that we should check out the new frontier records colored vinyl. But, all frontier releases are on colored vinyl. The fact that it's on colored vinyl isn't that big of a deal. I'm not trying to be rude, but I guess I just don't see the hype surrounding their colored vinyl. For the last 5-6 years it seems that all the old releases are now back in print on colored vinyl. I'm sure in 2 months they'll press up another batch on a different color. I'm sure that there is some completist that will buy every color, but for me, I'll just stick with one copy of the record. I'm not singling out Frontier, but it seems that a lot of labels (Rivalry, No Idea, Deathwish, Bridge 9, etc...) these days are only releasing colored vinyl. It's easier to sell colored vinyl than just plain black wax, but I could care less that the Adolescents s/t album is on a different color this month, because it will be pressed on yet another color next month.
  21. My wife would pick out the records that she likes, or that reminds her of me. The rest would go to my friends.
  22. Actually there was probably way over 100,000 pressed on black and those colors are 1000 or less. That thing was in print on black vinyl and sold well for over 20 years. And how is that different than what labels like hydra head do where they press up at least 5 different color variations at one time yet i see few people complaining about that. At least Frontier is doing one color at a time and when the distributors run out and they have to press more, they change colors then. Most of those color variations are long gone except for what frontier saved for their mailorder. I love some of the Frontier releases. But, for the last 5 years it seems that all of the records have been on constant colored vinyl pressings. Granted, I know that people have to make a living and all, but what's the point in collecting the different colors when the Suicidal Tendencies record is on its 25th color in the last 2 years? Hydra Head might make 5 colors all at once, but once they're sold out, they're gone. All of the vinyl at frontier is pretty much only on colored vinyl right now. The only frontier vinyl I bought off the site was the special mailorder pressings of 1000 with the different colored sleeves.
  23. I only use 6 mil,but it cost $45 for 100. But... the records slide so well in and out of the cabinet, and it just feels nicer. I would go for as thick as you can spend. 2 mil is like a zip lock bag.
  24. I find it sad that they essentially have a handful of releases, and they just keep pressing them on colored vinyl every month. After awhile, what's the point? Black is probably the rarest color they've pressed!
