Genuine question as I haven't frequented this board in quite a long time and just read through the last few pages of the original thread. Are we not allowed to share video game music bootlegs we've collected at all? Or are we just not allowed to advertise them for sale?

It’s been a long time since I’ve regularly visited here, but iirc *any* talk of bootlegs or unofficial releases on this board was met with some pretty staunch outcry and, at times, the conversation would be completely shut down by the mods. At the very least it would almost always spark a debate on the ethics and morality of buying these releases, with the vast majority of users here not being in favor. This seemed to result in those who buy them to be reluctant to share or want to talk about the subject.

  2. Somehow the fact that they are releasing new music (which should be a fairly big deal) was completely overshadowed by the horrible reissue artwork for their old albums.   Terrible marketing strategy.

also can’t help but love they turned comments off on the Instagram post for what I can only presume was an onslaught of highly entertaining internet criticism.

Is this thread for anyone to ask dumb questions??

I have an Audio Technica LP60 which has been a great beginner turntable for over 2 years. Lately everything has started to sound distorted and I can't figure out why. I've replaced the stylus and made sure the speakers weren't the problem.

So I may go ahead and replace it but I am looking for something that's maybe a little more high end while also being fully automatic. Any recommendations? Otherwise I may just get another LP60.

At the very least your stylus is probably dirty. Either that or it’s worn down. Needles are only good for around 1000 hours of playback.

LP60 is a starter table, wouldn’t recommend to buy it again. Unless you like replacing your turntable every two years.

will the phono stage help bring out some of the highs and lows or will i need another component (like an equalizer?) to do that? Since there appears to be no way to adjust "tone" (again, thread for dumb questions)

Depends on what phono stage you get. Some may have an EQ… I would be curious what amp/speakers you are using, if those were of good quality an EQ usually isn’t even needed

I have my turntable setup by a window and the records are right below the turntable. Is this bad for my vinyl?  Will this damage the goods?

Too much direct sunlight can be bad for electronics (mostly cosmetic wear). It can also warp records due to the heat and fade jackets. If you live somewhere where the climate can get warmer and that window is one that has direct sunlight for extended periods of the day, I would find a different spot.

So have a Technics direct drive TT with onboard preamp into a tube amp which is very nice but cant manipulate the sound at all so bass/treble etc dont always come through well. Am going to buy a phono stage (Cambridge Duo) to mitigate some of this but do i need a dedicated preamp as well? Mainly since a cartridge uprade might need more power?

The Cambridge “phono stage” you mentioned is a phono pre amp. As long as your tube amplifier works to get a line level signal from a source then you shouldn’t need anything else. the Duo can handle moving magnet and moving coil cartridges so even if you swapped your cartridge out it’s unlikely you would need anything else.

  7. I have an easy one. I'm just looking to pick up some POP PUNK LPs, colored variants preferred. non-censored enema of the state plz.

  8. Sold off a good chunk of my collection last year and looking to pick some stuff back up, starting with some records that should be relatively easy to find. I’m not sure why everyone on discogs thinks every slab of vinyl pressed is worth $50 now..

    Anyway, here’s what I’m after:

    -kid a (2x12”)

    -ok computer (any 2xLP pressing)

    -hail to the thief

    -moon shaped pool (any pressing)

    -in rainbows box set

    thanks for looking

I’ve been considering giving the Nagaoka MP-110 a try, that might be a cost effective experiment.

Last night I played a few records through my headphones, definitely still quite bright, turning the treble down definitely helped a bit.

The Nagaoka would be a good choice after disliking the Ortofon. I went from a 2M blue to an AT-440mla (current equivalent is the VM540) and have never looked back. They are hands down my favorite cartridges I’ve heard in the $200-$300 range. I also own a Denon DL-110 that I’m a fan of as well.

A system should sound good on direct or pure direct mode or there’s something to be improved. No EQ should be needed.

    Get a Marantz

While I’m a big fan, I think this blanket statement won’t actually solve OP’s problem. The 2m blue is known as a very bright cart, and has been reviewed as fatiguing to some (myself included)

While it’s true the Rotel might be amplifying the problem produced by the cart (no pun intended), a 2m blue paired with a marantz might still be too bright for OP’s preference. I’d personally start with a new cartridge as it’ll be the easiest part of the system to invest in and would most likely solve the problem.

  11. Well, a day after reaching out to District Lines to inquire about both of my orders I never received I got a response that they originally oversold their stock and were waiting to receive more from Hydra Head. Today I got a different message saying a batch of records were damaged which is why they never shipped me mine so they can only offer a refund.

Seems weird I would only hear about this a day after reaching out to them, and I haven’t heard or seen anyone else effected beside me. I wish companies would just be honest, say they fucked up (in this case forgot to fulfil my order) and offer something substantive for a solution.

    Double bummer.
