  1. They are incredible live. I discovered them during a tour with TTNG and Mylets when they were promoting AHBF (better late than never). I had no idea what to expect as I didn't preview them before going to the show. There was so much energy in the room for start to finish. It was a perfect decrescendo. The crowd was really into it with most people dancing with variable melodies of chaos to softer, more delicate sounds. The repetition of song of the songs lulled everyone into a trance and the band acted as conductors encouraging a response from the crowd. The band seemed very proud, excited and you can tell they really love what they do.
  2. The wait is over! Tenement return with a brand new double album, three years in the making! Pre-Order now Tenement's Predatory Headlights The great expanse of Wisconsin to this day remains a wild frontier to many. Even to its own sons and daughters, the thought often persists that perhaps there are demons in the woods, or something unknown in the water. It can be no mistake then that Tenement were raised in these woods and drank of this water. Over the course of their nine year career to date, their work ethic and musical ideas have often been attributed to an outsider mentality and a stubborn individualism. The energy they conjur at will might also at times seem just short of some kind of sorcery. Now, with the release of their new double record, Predatory Headlights, their place in the modern world of music has become distinct. They're no longer only an obscure punk band from the farthest reaches of society's consciousness, but also one of America's great outsider pop groups. The principal songwriter of this trio is Amos Pitsch. He founded the group in 2007 with bassist Jesse Ponkamo, and the two embraced Eric Mayer as their full time drummer some years later. As a live act, they're an assault on the ears, a confusing spectacle, and a dispensary of remedies for the lonely and misunderstood all at once. In a studio setting, as you'll hear in Predatory Headlights, their touch is delicate and thoughtful even at its loudest moments. You can hear the strong influence of bands like The Descendents, The Ramones, and even more primative groups in the playing and execution. But the influence of luminaries such as Ruth Crawford Seeger, William S Fischer, and Robert Kirby are evident in the addition of strings to the pop songs that could stand sturdy on their own even without them. Still upon repeated listening, you might be able to catch an array of other influences, ranging from northern soul to exotica to the avant garde. These are stirred in with ease; something Tenement does naturally as their intention is always steadfast and absolute. In other words, when something needs to be pretty, they make it pretty. And when something needs to be ugly, they leave no gloss, shimmer, or sheen. They strangle the song bird of its TWEET TWEET - and let it cough. Predatory Headlights was completed over the course of three years with the assistance of engineer and co-producer, Justin Perkins. Pitsch has often cited Perkins' involvement in early 2000's groups Yesterday's Kids and The Obsoletes as a heavy influence. Perkins also worked with Tenement on their 2011 offering, Napalm Dream, as well as acclaimed records by the likes of The Goodnight Loving, The Sugar Stems, and The Mystery Girls. The bulk of Predatory Headlights was written and recorded at BFG in Appleton, Wisconsin - Tenement's home and personal studio. The house was symbolically demolished within days of finishing the record, and in a fitting display of finality, three years of sweat and nightmares and beauty and dissonance returned to the soil and found its way back into the water and woods with only this document to prove it ever even existed at all. Thanks to Don Giovanni Records, you hold the very document in your hands - Tenement's newest window into the nature of the human being and the complexity of life:Predatory Headlights. Pre-Order now
  3. Nope I'm SOL and not feeding scalper scum. About a quarter of the capacity is on stub hub and it makes me sick. Have a great time! I caught them last time they were around and it was unreal. I'm just incredibly bummed I won't be able to make it without proper planning and this puts me in a shitty situation.
  4. Anyone able to grab tickets for NY? I have been struggling for over 10 mins now.
  5. Hellfest nostalgia, GG Allin and ECW rolled into one package. The kids who eat that shit up are the same that think Danzig and Harley will be present at TIHC.
  6. Nope, I go every year. I can't wait! I've been waiting for a long time now to see Snapcase.
  7. I did and enjoyed it for the most part. Unfortunately, they played on the big stage so it was incredibly hard to hear anything. The band had a lot of energy though and played mostly stuff off Reach Beyond the Sun.
  8. They are on the Skate+Surf lineup but I don't see any plans for a new album. They have been playing shows again since 2013 but I haven't seen them in almost a decade prior to last night.
  9. No it was Popeye with a full band feat. members of Ensign and Nora.
  10. Ditto on what Dave said. I feel like Tony from Killing Time...I can't hear a thing right now! I had a blast this weekend, but boy was the sound awful there. That small stage did sound much better, but not by much. I will definitely think twice before going there again. So much for seeing Underdog. Regardless of how crappy that venue was with his soaking wet walls and muddy floor, this was a a special weekend and I am glad I could be a part of it. Growing up in NJ and seeing a lot of these bands as far back as 2004 and again now brought back so much nostalgia. So many killer sets I can't even pick a favorite. I am fortunate for seeing "Farceside" and "Underfaux" crush it for what it my first time seeing both. And having seen Nate many times from Ensign to Vision to The Fire Still Burns I was overjoyed to see him pick up that bass and end the Ensign set and even play a song with SOIA. These good vibes will hopefully hold with everyone who participated, especially Nate. Gluck Cancer!
  11. My tracking # says they are coming from Alaska...so it's going to be a while. Estimated delivery date is 17 days later than the departure date.
  12. Got a few done at the Philly tattoo con yesterday. First one is a lyrical reference to Pedro the Lion's "Magazine" done by Tron from Three Kings Brooklyn/Manhattan: And then my long awaited Millencolin "swallows" done by Rukus from Black Square in Brooklyn:
  13. Yes and just got tracking info. Buy this dude's records. From the list there are still tons of deals to be had.
  14. Anyone else going to the Philadelphia Tattoo Convention? I anticipate a very sore and expensive weekend. So far I just have an appointment with Tron but am looking to get a couple other things done too.
  15. I just got my stuff yesterday and couldn't be happier. Looking at the list there is still tons of great stuff to be had at very reasonable prices.
  16. Male Patterns (featuring members of After the Fall, Libyans, Nuclear Family and Neutron Rats) just released their first EP Thinking Too Much. Check it out: http://malepatterns.bandcamp.com/

  18. I didn't hear that. That was really nice of them. They are all very friendly and humble people from the little interaction I have had with them at some shows out in West Philly. Same with The Menzingers and Holy Mess. It's bands like them that make the Philadelphia scene so great and help it thrive. The Scandals are also good dudes that play with a lot of heart and energy. My friend's band One Short Fall used to always play with them in North Jersey where I went to school. They were always one of those bands that busted their asses and toured everywhere for nothing but the music. Many shows at the Meatlocker and The Lanes later they seem to finally be breaking out with help from Brian Fallon. It was nice seeing such a positive reaction from the crowd.
  19. That sounds awesome. I hit up the flea market, Saturday show and then grabbed some drinks with friends at the lanes. I don't know if I have ever seen that place that packed. As far as the flea market I am pretty happy with what I got considering a lot of the tables were the normal dealers. This one guy always grabs my attention, because he has such an awesome collection but everything priced at the highest ever popsike price or more. That guy with all The Screehing Weasel and Queers test presses + more always gets me too. I picked up Against Me's Acoustic EP, The Explosion's Flash Flash Flash on yellow, first and uncensored UK pressing of Anti-Nowhere League's We Are...The League, an original pressing of Raygun...Naked Raygun and Sound and Fury pressing of Ceremony's Violence Violence all for about $50.
