  1. I'm 99% positive that haircut message was in that grouping as well. I know I have it, just not sure how I got it. I just started making faux-album covers for all the demos and what not. They're really cheesy, but I was super bored one night and I cannot stand iTunes not having album art.
  2. We have a friend who goes to school in Daytona and she's going to drive us up.
  3. I wrote it for another website I'm affiliated with, just as a spur of the moment thing. Then Heisel suggested I submit it to Punknews, so I re-read it and realized it was a decent critique. I spiced it up a little more and posted it here. I'll be submitting it to PNdotO when I get home -- I don't goto PNdotO at work because it's blocked and even though I'm the network administrator I like to set a good example. Good thing VC isn't blocked! Regardless, you folks are the first to read said review.
  4. Ben Lee covering an entire Against Me! album, really? I hope Jason Bay is wide-awake in left field because this cover-record was hit out there with force. A decelerated and 100% acoustic version of New Wave is precisely what the AM! purists wanted the band’s major label debut to sound like. Although I’m sure they’ll still find reasons to get up in arms over a decorated indie-pop star from down under reworking a few punk anthems that they might catch their mother listen to. I thoroughly enjoy Lee's voice, but it doesn't work well on all of the songs. He's too gentle and compassionate for coarse tracks like "White People for Peace" and "Americans Aboard.” On the contrast, he steals some of the thunder from "New Wave," almost converting it into his own tune. My only gripe with the aforementioned track is his Australian accent mudding up the word "shores" to where it sounds like "chores.” Another track that fairs well acoustically is "Up the Cuts" -- a gracious piano and humble alt-rock beat carry it simply, while adding a certain charm. The "ba ba ba's" on the album's lead single "Trash Unreal" work a little better coming from Ben than they do for Tom Gabel. "Stop" was one of my favorite cuts on New Wave, but I'm not too found of Lee's endeavor, the same can be said for "Bourne on the FM Waves of the Heart.” I find that humorous, seeing as that's the track that Tegan guests on; one of the main reasons Ben listened to Against Me! in the first place. The cover is a dud, because without one-half of the Quin twins it loses its captivating appeal, even if Lee delivers his vocal parts in superior fashion. "Animal" is the worst song AM! have ever recorded, the same can quickly be said for Ben. I'm still not sure how I feel about his rendition of "Ocean.” During my initial listen I couldn't wait to hear it, because I had a feeling his cute and playful style would take the song to immeasurable altitudes. However, it resonates on par with Gabel's initial effort. I'm not vilifying it, as I adore the song, I just felt Ben could have done a finer job. Perhaps its the weird strain on his voice as he croons "there is an ocean / in my soul” that effects my opinion. One thing that is severely missing from this collection, add a few soft thumps and a plethora of these songs would fashion into the perfect "Against Me!-lite" sound. My pleasure with these songs trumps any negatives and I'm glad an artist like Ben Lee decided to tackle a punk rock record.
  5. Don't make a yousendit, just make a .torrent. In fact, I think one exists. Some kid a few years back started a thing called "Project Weezer" where he tracked down EVERYTHING Weezer and released it as a .torrent. I believe it's still on the net somewhere. That .torrent had everything you could find from Weezer. I mean EVERYTHING. Demos, b-sides, live bootlegs, Goat Punishment bootlegs, Songs from the Black Hole, audio rips from the DVD, covers, live covers, the infamous cell-phone recording of Beverly Hills, interviews, and other stuff I'm forgetting.
  6. Sleep? During the Fest? Never. Last year I was so worn out, this whole year I've been practicing not sleeping so that I can enjoy my 4 days in Gainesville like no other. Heh. Last year staying at that hotel 20-mins away was both a bad and great idea. The bad was that the damn website had the wrong hotel and I thought I should have been closer, so we started walking to the venues the first day...baaaaad idea. The good, the girl at the front counter was our age and didn't care what we did. We partied more in the hotel lobby than anywhere else. I'm glad to be 5mins from everything this time. This way I can make all my vinyl purchases and run them back to the room w/ ease without having to worry about carrying that shit around. Plus I don't have to rent a car.
  7. I have more money than I know what to do w/ at the moment and since no one will go to Europe w/ me my budget is non-existent. Once I move out I'll be singing a different tune.
  8. I don't have one specific best friend, so here's a few pictures of all the people I'm really close with. That's my brother and I, he's probably my bfffffffffffff
  9. Hmm, the Cleveland show is the day before the Bad Religion show. Heisel, I might just stay at your house and skip work on Thursday.
  10. I'm going. Where'd you get your hotel at Scott? I'm at the main Fest hotel.
  11. I would sell my soul to hear this record. Rivers was actually going to release a few other songs, but Geffen stepped in and was like 'no no no no no no no NO!' -- so he put up the sheet music on his myspace blog. A couple of folks over at the weezernation.com boards took a stab at them...I never listened though, I hate those people. I'm thoroughly convinced that "Blast Off!" is the greatest song ever written and I'll probably never hear it.
  12. Where's the hip-hop? Have I taught you nothing?!?! Kidding, looks good.
  13. First person to paypal me $5 gets a nomination from me! Kidding. I'm going to say Benchwarmer this time around, because there was a band from Pittsburgh called Benchwarmer and I liked them.
  14. Whoa, super stoked on this! @ScriptedRain The players are just Flash players embedded with HTML. As long as your blog accepts HTML inputs (most do), then you should be fine.
  15. I want one!! - Jeff You can snag it and another 7" from their website. I forget what it is, google harry and the potters.
  16. I'm not sure if this is the worst or best thing I've added to my collection... 7" of my lifetime.
  17. Not sure why people continue to buy Madden. I played this over my buddies house last night, it sucked as usual. 2K Sport's new game was better, but it wasn't that great. I'm done buying sports games.
  18. Great interview, on par w/ the aforementioned AP article. Too bad Silverstein is a horrible band because they all seem like nice people.
  19. I'm thinking about buying this poster: only $20 on Amazon, $5 to ship.
  20. I'm 24 and I still live at home, my entire bedroom is thus a nerd room. Maybe I'll take some pics, maybe I won't.
  21. Damn, I ordered BTMI from Asian Man. Maybe I'll get the Tuesday LP...maybe.
  22. We have the same longest song! We actually had the same mewithoutyou song too, but I just deleted that because that band is awful.
