I get what you are saying, but saying that "without scammers paypal would be free" just isn't accurate man. its a tiny fraction of the transactions they do. we are footing the bill for a profitable company, just like everything else. I got scammed by drewskimonster for $23. well over 5 grand has passed through my paypal and that was my only problem. combine that with eBay fees (same company) and at they've profited probably around $700-$800 bucks off of me, even if they ate that $23. see what I mean?

I praise you for you efforts but this just isn't practical. even if a scammer fucks you with the current system, paypal is ultimately the one who bites the bullet. if you just send a record blindly, who will you file a claim with if they don't pay? paypal claims, especially when someone scams multiple people with the same story, are an open and shut 3 week process. so it's not that big of a risk anyway

I haven't been around here as long as either of you... but I've noticed: Stay away from people with "cliche" display names. "BrandNewJoe," "Joe182," "LessThanJoe," etc... Doesn't necesarily mean that they are a scammer, but it raises suspicion. Stay away from people with no positive feedback, unless they have an ebay profile or discogs, or something to back them up. Stay away from people who are willing to sell a record for a price that is obviously lower than the actual value. "Jenny Miller" offered to sell me a Comeback Kid "Wake The Dead" LP on smoke for $22. That just doesn't happen in the real world. Stay away from people who use the "I'm sick and couldn't make it to the PO" excuse in the threads. It's just fucking bullshit. Stay away from people whos FIRST post on the board is their new sale thread, which is loaded with only the rarest variants of OOP titles. And finally.... LISTEN TO BOARD VETS. They know this shit more than us. Just some shit I've picked up on....

I use my paypal almost every day and when I get payments now, they immediately are available. even without tracking or anything. but I had to earn that. and Id never fuck that up to make $30 off some dudes on a vinyl forum haha

yeah, have him send pictures and make him send it back. I have been selling on eBay for about a year now, and I decided recently to start taking photographs of the packaging process. I take detailed photos of the record, every corner. then I take pics of every step I do during packaging. also, on every record I sell over $20, I insure it, and I pay for it. sucks, but prevents shit like this from happening. most likely though, now that you've requested pics.... you won't hear from him haha
