  1. Seriously! Is there a way to follow members? Because I need to make sure I don't miss any of bake's posts.
  2. It's a good day when this thread is bumped with new kitty pictures! Here are our three: Alice Shickadance: Charlie Chucklestein: Tobias Funke:
  3. You have the Tube Box S, right? It most definitely can handle LOMC and quite well.
  4. This is the one I have: http://www.discogs.com/Heart-Heart/release/1812084. It was perfect the whole way through. There are quite a few US entries on Discogs - I'd avoid 'Club' pressings. I'm not sure where you're located but maybe try a couple of record stores and ask to listen before buying? I know we have a couple of copies at our store but I'm assuming you're in the US.
  5. I'm not embarrassed to say I love Heart!!! I've never noticed any issues with my Canadian press. I'm listening to it right now (three songs in) and haven't had any problems. A misaligned cartridge would definitely struggle with it though. Where are you having problems or is it throughout the whole album?
  6. Ok, one last thing about the turntable on the amp: not only will the heat cause premature failure, the sound will degrade as time passes. I recently replaced my wireless router. I read that keeping it off the ground and dust free would prolong its life. I put it on the ground in the same dusty spot. I don't care about the router the same way I care about my audio gear. But that's my choice and we all get to choose how we handle our stuff. I had never seen the Luxman PD444 until someone came in to sell it to us. The guy swatted my hand when I went to touch the dust cover. He always cleaned it in the shower. I take care of my stuff but not quite to that extent.
  7. Oh, I've had plenty of thoughts about it. I'm actually pretty happy with the two Luxman tonearms after buying the Mint LP protractor. Things didn't seem quite right until I finally nailed the alignment.
  8. Yeah, the N55ES has the same transformer as the N80ES. I'm on the lookout for another N55ES to run them in mono. No pictures of my complete setup (too messy) but I've included a picture of my turntable. This is my setup: Luxman PD444 w/Luxman TA-1 & Ortofon Quintet Black, Luxman TA-1 & Ortofon Vivo Blue > Pro-Ject Tube Box DS > Cambridge Audio 651A (as a preamp) > Sony TA-N55ES > Mordaunt-Short Mezzo 8.
  9. My buddy didn't change the oil in his first car for five years. It was fine then all of a sudden it wasn't... Yeah, the GX90ES is really nice. My first introduction to the Sony ES gear was a TA-E80ES pre and TA-N55ES amp. The pre stays in the shop for testing and the amp is in my setup now.
  10. How are you measuring output? Sony's Optical Legato system operates the amp in Class A mode at lower ouput. You realize Class A means it's always on, always producing heat, therefore even more important to have proper ventilation. If you could see how many dried up capacitors our technicians replaces in a day, you may change your mind. Heat needs to leave the amplifier. But I'm not going to tell you what to do with your gear. Just trying to help...
  11. We just serviced the exact same receiver you have and I was demoing it today. It gets quite warm, especially around the power transformer, and needs proper ventilation. EDIT: sorry, ours is a GX90ES but my comment still applies to your receiver.
  12. I ordered a black and grey copy from jpc.de two weeks ago. Both are showing in stock on my order status but I'm waiting for other items before it ships. The black copy isn't listed on their site anymore but the grey is. Maybe the black copy is the original press? I guess I'll find out... Here's the grey at jpc: https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/shining-blackjazz/hnum/6202610
  13. I ordered as soon as I saw their post on Facebook. I just listened to The Adversary and it's safe to say this will be the best $13 record I buy this year.
  14. I've owned the Pioneer PL-530 and it's a good turntable but the auto-return mechanism interferes with playback near the end of the record. The JVC has similar auto functions to early 80's high-end Sony and Denon turntables that do not interfere with playback. Also, the JVC is quartz-locked. My vote is for the JVC unless the problems it has are with the auto functions. That could be bad news. Good information here: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=366060
  15. Same but I bought direct from the label. $21.50 including shipping to Canada. Hard to believe it was almost 12 years ago. I miss those days...
  16. Shelby Lynne - Just A Little Lovin' - Analogue Productions standard pressing http://www.discogs.com/Shelby-Lynne-Just-A-Little-Lovin/release/3594654 I bought 5 copies for our audio/record store, they all sold in two days. There's a 45RPM press that I need as well. I can't imagine this album sounding better but I still have to have it. Also, a couple that haven't been mentioned: Atoms For Peace - AMOK, Devin Townsend Project - Ki, Jesus Lizard - Goat (original).
  17. The Speed Box ships with its own AC adapter and a cord to connect it to the turntable. You need the Speed Box AC adapter. It takes the AC from the mains supply, sends DC to the Speed Box. The Speed Box then sends a lower voltage AC to the turntable.
  18. The AC adapter for the old Debut Carbon doesn't work for the Speed Box. The AC adapter for the Speed Box outputs DC. The Debut Carbon AC adapter outputs AC. Specs for the Speed Box here: http://project-audio.com/main.php?tech=speedboxs&cat=default〈=en EDIT: the Music Hall 2.2 must be an AC motor otherwise it wouldn't have worked with the Speed Box so the same as the old Debut Carbon.
  19. This appears to be identical to the Hitachi HT-350. We just serviced one for a customer. Manual can be downloaded here. http://www.vinylengine.com/library/hitachi/ht-350.shtml Rotate the "Operation" switch to the cue up position then move the tonearm towards the record. The platter will start spinning. If the platter doesn't start spinning when you move the tonearm towards the platter, it will likely require repairs. Before playing a record, check the condition of the stylus. Probably best to just replace it.
  20. This guy knows what he's talking about but I don't know Lagwagon. I'll add NOFX - I Heard The Suck Live!! This was the only NOFX album I owned for over 10 years. I eventually got Punk In Drublic but I've always preferred that live album.
