If you're having trouble finding this used. I'd super recommend the Needle Doctor. Ask for Brian. Ask if he has a holiday special. He will most likely set you up with a 10% discount. You will not be disappointed by the platter! I've got it, it's ultra light weight compared to the hunky metal the Carbon comes with. More importantly attracts less magnetism. Less magnetism = less unwanted frequencies!

Do you run your powered speakers into a preamp? I have the Audioengine A2's and have connected them directly to the Carbon Debut. Sound comes out but it doesn't crank. I also have the Phonobox 2 USB preamp (I haven't connected this because I'm short 1 in/out red and black cable. Can anyone help with the proper set up? As in, IN/OUTS? For instance: TT>PREAMP (in or out?) >SPEAKERS (in our out?)

This is a tough one for what you're asking next to the budget unless you are eBaying and keeping bids low. But my honest opinion is since you're not going to be in a large room anytime soon, go with powered bookshelf speakers. Get some really good quality ones and keep them in nice condition, when you move out, sell them. Then go for the whole receiver, passive speaker enchilada. On another note to strengthen my case for you going powered bookshelf: You can still hear a whole lot from 2.1 speakers especially through pop music. 5.1 might benefit the orchestra music a bit more and then also film since film is where typically audio engineers throw sounds out of left field. Generally audio engineers in music want to bring out all sounds that are important in the first place, to the front. So 5.1 with music is more of a luxury and in a small space, 2.1 will be very proficient for your listening pleasure.
