Record Player Volume

Do you use a separate pre-amp? Since that is what amplifies the turntable's signal up to line-level, my guess is that there's a problem there. Make sure that the connections between the turntable and the pre-amp and between the pre-amp and the receiver/amp are tight. Do you have the same problem if you try to listen to other inputs (like CDs)?

This kind of stuff is so hard to diagnose. I had a problem with my SL1700 and didn't want to spend the money on a new, inferior turntable. Mine's pretty old. I mentioned it at the record store and the dude there gave me the name of a local repair shop that works on turntables. For $50 he fixed the short, fixed the auto return and cleaned it up.

Hot.
