Apple "Let's Rock"

So, the Genius playlist creator is super cool. Choose a really upbeat dancing song and it will give you a playlist of 25 more. Same for a mega-downer of a song, or whatever. I just tried like 20 different songs, and all the playlists were perfect.

I found stuff in my library that it couldn't make playlists for (Envy, Flying Lotus). I kind of wished it gave you unique artists until they couldn't make more matches.

Still confused as to how Sufjan Stevens shows up in a genius list based on a Darkest Hour song...

The Genius thing is pretty cool. Looking forward to them getting more info -- the same band comes up too many times in a particular playlist.

Although I did just get a pretty epic (mostly) 90's alternative playlist by selecting Dinosaur Jr's "Feel The Pain". Included in this masterpiece are:

Dinosaur Jr - "Feel The Pain"

Sponge - "Molly (Sixteen Candles)"

The Replacements - "I'll Be You"

Sonic Youth - "Teen Age Riot"

Smashing Pumpkins - "Drown"

Pixies - "Head On"

Goldfinger - "Here In Your Bedroom"

Built To Spill - "Liar"

Nada Surf - "Popular"

Rancid - "Ruby Soho"

Sunny Day Real Estate - "Seven"

Sugar - "Helpless"

Pavement - "Summer Babe (Winter Version)"

Sonic Youth - "Superstar"

Smashing Pumpkins - "Rhinocerous"

Nirvana - "Drain You"

Dinosaur Jr - "Little Fury Things"

Superdrag - "Sucked Out"

Hum - "Stars"

Spacehog - "In The Meantime"

The Rentals - "Friends Of P."

Pavement - "Cut Your Hair"

Pixies - "Gigantic"

Neutral Milk Hotel - "The King Of Carrot Flowers, Pt. 1"

Fugazi - "Waiting Room"

The weird thing is that it seems to have picked out all the singles/radio hits.

I was going to say it just programmed 1997 Radio

downloaded 8.0 but haven't used genius yet. I have to say I don't care for the new album art view, it takes forever to load all the covers on my computer and is a pain in the butt to scroll through.

You can change it to standard or Cover Flow again.

yea I know I did, will probably give genius a spin tnight.

Wow, these are actually the first ipods I have liked, ever. The touch model anyway... I suppose they are just gimmicks, but i find it slightly cool. plus they dont come in white. i may even have to retire my old iriver h10

They don't make white iPods anymore.

You can get an ipod classic in white still

$250 gets you 120 Gigs

why are they discontinuing the 160? shits bangin.

My thought is that it was not selling well.

More people are buying nanos, touches, and iphones because of the mulit functionality, colors, cool new gadget feel of them. The ipod classic is still more of a music playing machine than a pure multimedia one, which is where apple is going with their products.

I would not be surprised if they totally phase out the classic in the near future, what with flash memory becoming cheaper and getting larger amounts of space.

Price wise, the 32 GB ipod touch is where the 40 GB ipod was when it first came out.

i wasn't that impressed with genius. like someone else mentioned, it repeats artists a lot within a single playlist. and when i tried it on a steinways track it gave me a bunch of indie rock, not pop punk. i know it's not necessarily single-genre, but there weren't actually any other bands like the steinways in the playlist.
