xlovecolouredx
i ever debase with my girlfriend about this question. i think vinyl is property. because some item can sell in 2x or 5x or 10x on ebay when you need some cash. how do you think ? steventangent
I have never really thought about it. Just a word of advice, though - "debating" with your girlfriend is probably a lot healthier for your relationship than "debasing" her
hickey
I think vinyl is property. My records are covered on my renter's insurance. And, if anyone tries to steal my shit, you're darn tootin' I'm going to protect my property.

patron
some item can sell in 2x or 5x or 10x on ebay when you need some cash. I'd say that using that example, it makes it more of an investment then property. But as far I see it, my records are all three. My property, my investment (if I ever need to sell), and most importantly, my hobby.
adamlikesmusic
Property is something that is owned or possessed. Even if it's a hobby, you still own them. I'd be lying if I said I totally understood this thread.
steventangent
Come to think of it, debasing one's significant other is a lot more fun than debating them anyway.

Guest falloutcollapse
I bought a sturdy metal box for my records. If there is ever a fire in my house, I am going to throw my guitar (in its case) and my records straight out the window as far as possible

Good idea. This is my main plan, the window is now a backup.

brentoage
the great thing about records is how heavy they are. if someone breaks into your place, they aren't going to be stealing your records. unless they came specifically for them. mcm1610
But as a downside, recovering from surgery and trying to haul records around is far from recommended.

If there is ever a fire in my house, I am going to throw my guitar (in its case) and my records straight out the window as far as possible I am really glad that I'm not the only person that's thought about how they'd save their music and music equipment. I've also thought about saving my computer and pictures too. They're all conveniently located near each other... My girlfriend too... Not so sure she'd want to be thrown out the window though... but that's beside the point... the point is... good thinking.
