pjaicomo
In addition to collecting variants (I know, fuck me), I am also prone to buying the full discog of bands I like even when I know that some of the albums are shitty. Anyone else do this - I am assuming most people do? This problem comes up a lot more with CDs than vinyl, since everything comes out on CD and only certain things make it to wax. xjustinxschwierx
yeah...i definitely do this... H2O go(I still don't admit to this piece of shit ever being released) and the All I Want EP(still in the shrink wrap)(got them both for free from my radio show) the last Shelter record(given to me, but never listened to) the last few MxPx CDs... the s/t Warzone album. oh yes. Guest drahtuos
i go for complete discogs, minus the cds. i rarely buy cd's, when i do it's miley cyrus and the like.

chiefwahoo
I've always done this, but only with vinyl. Once a band is past their prime, I have no problem stopping if it's only released on CD. But if it's vinyl, I buy everything they release.
cadetapplesauce
in the process for ben folds/five. includes side projects! edit: vinyl only
pjaicomo
This is going to be my issue with Copeland. Hmmm.

AlexH.
I've been trying to find Pedro the Lion - Helicopter for a while now, even though there's only one song exclusive to it and it's not very good. Plus, there's 2 colors. I also plan on picking up the Mae Shi - To Hit Armor Class Zero, even though it's a one-sided 10" with 59 minutes of music on it. I buy them because I love the bands, which is why I started collecting them in the first place. I actually don't own any CDs of either band though. trainreck
even though it's a one-sided 10" with 59 minutes of music on it. is this possible? and i do this too. if i dont really like one of a bands albums i'll try to get it as cheap as possible but i still want it in my collection
Guest vito
i don't have a problem with this. if i like a band enough to "collect" their discography then chances are that they won't put out a record i don't like. i don't really have any outrageous collections of these types of bands, so it's not a problem for me if they release a shitty record. 180gramparamedic
GUILTY. i am quick to harp on varient nerds but i am definitely a discog nerd. Elliott Smith (this was pre-reissue, folks) and American Analog Set have been my most costly. i paid 50 bucks for an anamset EP that i think is awful and boring. fuck. 180gramparamedic
hey cadet, any luck with your ben folds quest? edit: nevermind, guess i should read the thread before posting. still hunting elliott singles that are not $300 BINS? mclz
the clash is one of my favorite bands, but i still will not buy anything cut the crap related also anything lib animation and pre from nofx i wont buy on vinyl
scooterist136
I'm guilty of doing this. If I dig a band, I want one copy of every record, including compilations that they put out, good, bad, or otherwise. I don't really collect varients so this is my main collecting problem. I am working on Damad right now and some of their pre first LP stuff isn't good at all...but I still want it.
stupidstu
Guilty as well. Plus side projects, which can get complicated quick if you start with a 'super group' side project... Start with Me First and you'll wind up with something like 60 releases...
pjaicomo
in the process for ben folds/five. includes side projects!edit: vinyl only What all side projects? I have a pretty comprehensive CD collection of his.
smailtronic
Absolutely. Weezer, the Wednesdays and the Pine Hill Haints right now.
konk
I was doing this with Vagrant for a pretty long time, and for a while most of their stuff was really good. I won't buy a single Senses Fail album, let alone 2 versions on the release date and a reissue a year later, though. I wish I had only been buying vinyl the whole time (not counting Cobraside), I don't think I'll ever see Loses Control again.

sgoodcore
I do this to a point. I exclude career compilations if I've got all the songs on wax elsewhere (example: Planes Mistaken for Stars). That's also the logic I have for shunning Remains, well that and its a clusterfuck of a release.
konk
konk, do you have '...and the sadness prevails' on vinyl? I actually picked this up recently from Merchlackey along with F2F Reactionary for $5 each. Shipping was only $10!
rocknroll76
I did this with the Melvins for years. I had just about every piece of vinyl and would not hesitate to pick up anything with their music on it...and then they started letting me down more and more.
