kirbypuckett
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09106/963333-66.stm?cmpid=news.xml John Madden retires from football broadcast booth Thursday, April 16, 2009 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette NEW YORK -- John Madden, the Hall of Fame coach who has worked as a football broadcaster for more than 30 years, is retiring, NBC announced today. "It's been such a great ride... the NFL has been my life for more than 40 years, it has been my passion .... it still is," Maddden, 73, said in a statement from NBC. "I still love every part of it, the travel, the practices, the game film, the games, seeing old friends and meeting new people... but I know this is the right time." Madden has been the game analyst for "NBC Sunday Night Football" since 2006. The final game he called was Super Bowl XLIII, in which the Steelers defeated the Arizona Cardinals for their sixth NFL championship. In 1969, at age 33, he became head coach of the Oakland Raiders and coached there until 1979, when he started his broadcasting career at CBS. slymer
I liked Madden. There was a period where his schtick got a little out of control, but he worked well with Michaels. I wonder who Michaels new partner will be.
dante3000
I'm kind of torn. I was never really a fan of his commentary but he is an icon. Plus the first time they had the pen that allowed you to draw on the screen, he broke his by dropping it into his drink. Dude's old school. mediocore
He's been a lot better since he teamed with Michaels in the booth. Al keeps him focused. The last few years of the Madden/Summerall era were quite the clusterfuck, however.

cosmonaut
He'd have to fight Peter King for him first. You mean Peter "no way will Denver trade Jay Cutler" King?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Brett Favre! Madden's man-crush on Favre was really disturbing. He would knob slob that dude any chance he got. its the real reason why he retired from announcing... knowing that he can't man-love Favre on air anymore. Favre is easily my favorite player in the NFL, but seriously, madden was so annoying about it.
