dante3000
I try to steer clear of the political fodder of the day. I dislike name calling and I find that conservatives pundits tend to just enrage me, rather than engage or challenge my view. However watching two people on The Today Show comment on Obama's "racism" or "race opportunism" really led me to wonder if it's a growing trend. Turns out, it is: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/07/obama-haters-becoming-increasingly-racial-in-their-rhetoric.php?ref=fpa

jaime
what obama said about the Henry Gates situation was pretty..."stupid" in the first place though. Which kind of shows a bit of how his initial thoughts go..which is kind of scary.

Which kind of shows a bit of how his initial thoughts go..which is kind of scary. I feel it's just a dumb issue. The police messed up and Obama messed up by saying they acted "stupidly". I was listening to the press conference on the radio and cringed when I heard that response because I knew it would draw fire. It doesn't matter if I agree with him (as I do) as the president you can't single out a group like that and not expect backlash.

Which kind of shows a bit of how his initial thoughts go..which is kind of scary. I have to disagree. The thing Obama did wrong was speak without being sure his set of facts were correct. That said, if his set of facts were correct, meaning a driver's license was shown to the cops, then what they did WAS stupid. We want our representatives to act like people and not so much like robots or slick, urbane stereotypical policticians yet when they do, they catch fire. Fact is, Obama spent 55 minutes of 56 minutes on air talking about health care and what the press focuses on is on stray comment. That's more stupid than any of this. And as for "which is kind of scary" bit, I think your statement it scarier than anything. Obama is not a racist, I think that's pretty damn obvious. He's not out to get whitey. So you're saying, if Professor Gates showed the officer his license - Obama's understanding of the event - and still was arrested the police weren't acting stupidly? To me, Obama is either right in saying what he said because he was accurate in his understanding of the circumstances or he should have just skipped the question all together. Had he skipped it, people would be talking about his evasion though, so he really couldn't win.

As Sammy pointed out -- he's not a fucking robot. He's a dude that likes basketball and dates with his wife. He's a father. He has a sense of humor. Everyone says stupid shit from time to time. This message board is prime evidence of that. Also as Sammy pointed out, what he said may not have been so stupid, whereas what the media did most defninitely was. Let the man run the country like he was voted to do and get off his back.

motorbike
why give them fuel for their fire then? why make them look like saints to the people who are on the fence about trusting a black president? i just dont get the logic. he is a president that i side with, i just wish he would have chose his words a little better. preach unity and then go widen the gap that much more. drabley
i just wish he would have chose his words a little better. Compared to the previous, the current is William fucking Wordsworth. deville
This whole Gates arrest has nothing to do with race. It's all about disrespecting the cop whole in turn got pissed like all cops do. Black or white, if you don't do what the pig says, he's gonna use the powers given to him to fuck you up.
