dstrange
I've heard some people favor them over the default turntable slipmats /rubber mats because it's better for the vinyl. Any truth to that?

finchbadass
a slip mat is a slip mat genius. doesnt matter where you get it or where it comes from.
philviral
Some materials make better slipmats then others, though. Cork for example seems to be a popular hifi slipmat material.

arvidalex
Someone can please tell me the REAL purpose of these?? I dont have one, i have a technics sl-q2 table with a rubber mat. Do the slipmats are made only to reduce the friction between the vinyl and the table ; you can hold the disc while the table continue to spin? Or are these made to reduce the static? or to help reduce the ''waving'' in the discs?? It somebody can clearly explain it to me, it will be much appreciated! It sets the records too high and the needle will slide across the records on the return at the end of the record. I think they're cool and I leave one on it when Im not playing records.. arvidalex
This is useful for holding a record still for slip-cueing, making minute adjustments during beatmatching and mixing and pulling the record back and forth for scratching. (wikipedia) Are you really doing beatmatching and scratching on your records?? So....my opinion, for my table : Slipmat is useless
xxmartinxx
I have a VPI Scout which is designed to not use a slipmat. It sounds much better than the turntables I've owned that used them, so I guess I'm against them.
