demon666 Posted March 14, 2011 Share Posted March 14, 2011 I know this is a wild stab in the dark but I was thinking about the possibilities of setting up a small network of people on both sides of the pond to enable us all to get the records we want. The reasons behind this are simple, it opens the chances of getting records you wouldn't normaly get the opportunity to buy, and also (hopefully) cuts down on the postage costs. Although I kinda want to use it as a means of getting some baseball tshirts, the postage on the MLB site is fucking ridiculous to the UK. demon666 Posted March 15, 2011 Author Share Posted March 15, 2011 I was initially just thinking about UK/US but I suppose if there are willing people then it could be a worlwide network. Really I was just looking at a network of honest, reliable people who are able to get hold of records & post them in a uniform way & for cost price (i.e not to make a big profit like the shops do) to music fans who can't get hold of items in their own country or feel ripped off by the postage & packing costs the shops charge. I was also initially thinking about records/cds etc but as long as both parties are willing then it could be for clothes/merch etc also. As I said in my original post, I don't know if this is something which will come to fruition but I think it could work if we get the right people....The key to the whole thing working and for it to keep working is the honesty & integrity of all people involved, we will probably all be strangers to start with so we would all in effect be taking a leap of faith!! I don't think there will be that much added risk. you could always just use a shipping method that includes tracking so you know your shit is actually being passed on. That being said, I'm in Canada, and I'd be down. Maybe we could start by getting a list of whose willing to be involved and where in the world they are located. Asked the guy about combined postage discounts and he said he couldn't as it was gonna cost him the $35 he charged me...............Parcel arrived yesterday - $17.60 postage! I buy alot from Canada & I find most companies charge a ridiculous amount for postage, when it actually costs a fraction of the price. I agree with this, the choice is simple when it comes to P&P, you either get cheap P&P and take the minimal risk that it won't arrive or pay for it to be tracked. I am pretty fortunate and receive 99.9% of all my orders shipped by normal postage. Another main idea of the original post was to discuss enabling people to get their hands on releases limited to certain countries, to give people an option on getting items other than paying super-inflated prices on certain auction sites. To add to the list, I am in the UK so really I would be looking at getting things shipped mainly from the US/Canada. To send packages with tracking cost is way high. BUT when it comes to 7"s....You can pack 4 or 5 in a 7"mailer, then slide that in a flat rate envelope and it $13.95 and trackable.
