kjkenney
So I want to replace the cartridge on my Sony PS-LX300USB. I was looking into replacing the whole table but due to lack of funds I'm gonna have to wait on that unfortunately. My question is..has anyone changed the cartridge on this successfully?? I looked under the headshell after popping it off the tonearm and the wires do not look color coded and they seem to be soldered on to the supplied cartridge; can I simply use the plastic sleeves I usually see on cartridges to hook up the new cartridge after removing the solder from the stock installation? Would I need to test the output of each wire to determine which is which? I'm kind of a noob with turntable mods so any advice would be appreciated...thanks! harryq
this sounds complicated, but I own one of these, too, so I'm interested in the answer the bad thing (or "/one/ bad thing") is that this table doesn't have a counter weight, so you wouldn't be able to adjust it for a new cartridge... right? slinch
Yeah, the cartridge on this one isn't meant to be replaceable. Also no counterweight means that even if you could manage to somehow replace it, there is no way to make it work as it should. So the best thing you can do is save up for a new TT. kjkenney
yaaargh, that stinks but that makes perfect sense; I didn't take that into consideration as well...oh well! thanks guys!
derkwithano
oh what the fuck, let me get this straight... so if the needle breaks, I can't replace mine??? It was a gift and I hopefully will get a Technics or something real nice someday, but this is going to have to last me for a little bit. slinch
You can replace the needle (I think they are still available), but you cannot change the cartridge.
