My labels second release is out, and on sale!

Recommended Posts

Hey man, I just recently started a label and am from PA as well. Our first release was from Richmond VA's BOXER. We released their debut EP on a single-sided 12" out of 250. They are a melodic hardcore/pop punk band (in vein of Title Fight, Turnover, B&C), so they are a little different form the genre you're releasing but I'm a fan of Ska and liked what I heard. I feel like we're kind of on the same page. PM so we can talk sometime.

Money was tight for us too. We also signed a relatively unknown artist and did all the PR for the release ourself. If there's anything I could help out with let me know. I'm still learning a lot of things and I know how stressful and overwhelming it can all be at first, but I've learned a few things through the experience. Our release just came in last week but we did a pre-order a little while back and had a decent turnout from it. When your release comes in I'd love to trade a couple of copies with you to put up in each others store if you're up to it.

Here are some links if you're interested.

Thanks man, all the positive words/support from other labels means a lot especially considering what's going on in the YMAEK thread right now haha

I just read up on that thread, thanks for the heads up on the fun drama.

I'll say this most of the "critiques" from that thread are being taken as meaner or worse than they are. The handful of people that initially were talking about the expense of the record, were relatively politely questioning why it cost so much, and why such a large chunk of money was needed from the kickstarter. Adam and the other guy to take quite a bit of offense to even the moderately polite questioning, and it got worse one or two posters were actually being dicks.

The initial questions seem to be from people with experience who probably legitimately were surprised at the cost of the project and wanted to make sure they weren't getting ripped of somewhere along the way. Most people, especially on a board like this will do a lot to help out an upstart label.

Where the guys from the other thread are hurting themselves is buy getting snippy and little bit pissy to even semi legitimate questions. You have been nothing buy a pleasant guy trying to promote his label and the musician affiliated with it, so people will treat you well. (Just know now you can't charge $22 for you record or there will be war)

Haha yeah no worries on that, its gonna be really reasonable. I'm not trying to make any money on this, however if there is profit half of it goes to the band and my half goes back into the label for the next release. I already have a job to make money, this is for fun.

Bumping my old thread again because, jackets have been ordered and I received my test presses tonight. Dave at lucky lacquers did an amazing job because these sound better then I had hoped. Seriously they kick ass on vinyl, I'll be approving the tests tomorrow and hopefully I can have them for sale by the end of the month! As RJ would say get stoked!
