burntwolf Posted March 17, 2008 Share Posted March 17, 2008 i think gold/platinum/etc is a certification based on total sales (minus returns) of a release regardless of format. http://riaa.org/goldandplatinum.php http://riaa.org/goldandplatinum.php?content_selector=criteria gold is 500k copies when that album came out, tapes were still really common, so i would guess the % split of tapes in production compared to CDs was still pretty high. if they did like Fat though, i bet a ton of cassettes were destroyed as a write-off at some point. i'm not passing any judgements, i'm all for caveat emptor...i'm just sayin... some guy on the knock knock bored was looking for a cassette copy of Rancid's Let's Go, which i actually still had (my little brother still had it in his tape case at my parents actually). but, then he disappeared. maybe i should throw that up.
