What brands seem to stand the test of time and have models that are still holding up well for a current sub-$200 budget? Which I don't really understand. I don't have a Marantz turntable, but I thought the general consensus on Marantz tables was that they're really not that special, or good for that matter. I had a Technics SL-D2 (difference with the D1 is that it has an auto-return function). Real good starting table in my opinion. If it's in good condition it will do the job more than fine! streetwaves Posted May 9, 2013 Share Posted May 9, 2013 I'm not sure why people keep pushing Marantz. Despite popular, but misinformed, belief---Marantz didn't make a great turntable. Receivers---yes. Turntables---no. Are their turntables shit---not exactly. But better can be had for the same price. I have a Thorens 165 and a Technics 1200. I use the Technics because I need something that's not that sensitive. The Thorens picks up every step in a NYC apartment. Which sounds better?
